Williamsport, PA - No. 11 Messiah College scored 17-straight points to break a 13-13 and defeat No. 25 York College in the Budd Whitehill Championship, 30-13. Kyle Koser's late fall at 197 secured the win as the Falcons went up 27-13, and a moment later a Nick Havener's 4-1 decision put a bow on the tournament win.

Earlier in the morning Messiah defeated host Lycoming College in the opening bracket of the Championship Group, 24-14. The match of interest was at 165 where No. 7 Nolan Barger edged No. 6 Larry Cannon by a single point, 3-2. Messiah was otherwise comfortable thanks to two tech falls and two majors en route to the win.

Ben Swarr (174) was named to the All-Tournament Team and Lucas Malmberg (125) was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player.

"I thought we were great this weekend," head coach Bryan Brunk said. "I thought we overcame adversity at different times--where a call here or there, or an upset at a certain bout-- but overall it was a nice weekend and a full-team effort."

On Friday the Falcons started off their weekend with a three-dual sweep of Trine, Williams, and SUNY Cortland. The first two wins came by lopsided margins, and Messiah's win over Williams included the return of Jeff Hojnacki from injury. The junior, who was ranked earlier this season, took a major decision over Nick Anselmi. Ben Swarr also returned from a shorter injury stint with a major decision.

"We're excited to have (Hojnacki) back," Brunk said, going on to say that they're easing him back into rhythm. "Our team is starting to come together with a full lineup that's tough from top to bottom."

In Messiah's win over SUNY Cortland Hunter Harris collected his 18th fall of the season, and Messiah came back from a 14-9 deficit thanks to three-straight wins at 165 (Larry Cannon), 174 (Swarr), and 184 (Derek Beitz). Swarr's win was in overtime, 3-2. Nick Havener sealed the win with a three-point decision over Zach Gifford in the heavyweight.

"The win over Cortland was our toughest of the weekend, and (Havener) really came up clutch with great play at the end. He had a great weekend."

Messiah's 5-0 showing pushed their dual record to 13-3, the 10th time in program history they've reached at least 13 victories.

"The 5-0 record on the weekend is great, but we're even more excited about the progress we made in our process," Brunk said, commenting on his team's improved execution. "The wins don't go for much if we're not working on getting better, and we that this weekend. That's what we're most excited about."

The Falcons will now be off for a full week before hosting the MAC Championships on Saturday, Jan. 21.
