Charming: Messiah's 4x800 Relay Record Highlights Weekend

Carlisle, PA - Messiah men's and women's track and field competed at Dickinson College's DuCharme Invitiational this weekend, and the women's 4x800 relay team broke the school record to highlight the Falcons' efforts. 

The relay team of Leanne Weaver, Kayla Miller, Maddison Landis, and Natalie Ross pulled in a time of 9:39.18, a stunning mark that destroyed the old record of 9:48.45 set back in 2005. The time also set the Kline Center record which was previously 10:05.

The strong performance led Messiah to a total of 103 points in the meet, good for second place to just Dickinson's team (170). Gettysburg was in third with 62 points. The Messiah men finished first overall with 112.50 points, more than 35 points better than second place Lebanon Valley.
 
The women's strong showing continued past the 4x800 as Leanne Weaver also took first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 61.71 seconds. Marie Johnson (36'3.5") took first in the triple jump, and Kristen Frawley had a runner-up showing in the 55 meter hurdles (8.77).9427
 
Also in the hurdles teammates Abby McMinn (9.03) and Rebecca Querfeld (9.65) took third and seventh, respectively.

The men also had a terrific day highlighted by Brady Miller's first place finish in the 400 meter dash. He clocked in at 52.80 seconds. Toward the other end of the spectrum, Alex Scheib took second in the mile run with a time of 4:27.79, and far on the other side of the distance events, in the 5000 meter run, Zachary Lofties took second with a time of 16:16.28. Kirk Mummert was fourth in the same race at 16:28.74.
 
Another runner-up performance came from Aaron Gray who finished second in the 55 meter hurdles with at time of 8.27 seconds. Donnell McNair (8.48) and Brett Koch (8.59) were behind at fourth and fifth place, respectively.
 
In the relays, and like the women before them, Messiah took first in the 4x800. Matthew Royer, Derrick Peterson, Brandin Dyche, and Tyler McFeaters combined to put together a time of 8:33.60 that was more than two seconds better than Susquehanna. In the 4x1600 meter relay Alex Scheib, Joshua Pardoe, Benjamin Schott, and Nathaniel Pardoe outperformed their seed time by moreo than six seconds to take second place (17:58.79).
 
In the field Tim Moses was once again a star with a first place finish in the pole vault. He cleared 16'4.75" and was followed in second by Dane Corelius (14'11"). Aaron Gray was fifth at 13'5.25."
