Bethlehem, PA - Messiah women's track & field collected four goals medals and scored 169.5 total points to claim their first MAC Indoor Championship since 2011. Head coach Dale Fogelsanger took home Coach of the Year honors after leading the Falcons to the title win by just 19.5 points over Misericordia. Leanne Weaver (800m Run), Megan Renes (Pole Vault), Rebecca Querfeld (Pentathlon), and the Distance Medley Relay team of Weaver, Kayla Miller, Maddison Landis, and Natalie Ross all took home gold medals for the Falcons.

"This was such a great team effort, and everyone stepped up," said head coach Dale Fogelsanger, who was also named MAC Women's Coach of the Year. "I'm so thankful for everyone on our team, it was just a great weekend."

The Falcons collected 13 total medals over the two-day championships event and, even though Misericordia collected six golds to Messiah's four, the Falcons collected six silvers to the Courgars four. Throw in a deep lineup that scored points across seventh and eighth places, and the Falcons managed to outpace the favorite Misericordia.

Messiah led a small nine-point lead into the final events, and that lead shrunk to just 2.5 points before the final event-- the women's Pentathlon-- was finished. With that group finishing up, the results were sealed with Rebecca Querfeld, Taylor Wiederrecht, and Brooke Maneval going 1-2-5 in the scoring.

"Taylor literally ran the second leg of the 4x400 and then had to run the 800 of her Pentathlon, that's just how the events fell," Fogelsanger said, laughing with joy at the first-year competitor's efforts. "That was something to see, and she just took it in stride.

"But it was really everyone on our team, up and down the lineup in every class," Fogelsanger continued. "Everyone contributed in their events and, even more importantly, in encouraging each other."

Among the great performances from the weekend, outside of the gold medal winners, was Marie Johnson who took second in the triple jump and third in the high jump. Kristen Frawley (60m Hurdles), Alissa Rogers (5000m Run), Natalie Ross (Mile Run), and both the 4x200 and 4x800 relays joined with huge silver-medal showings.

"The Distance Medley Relay on Friday really set the tone for our team," Fogelsanger said, referring back to Friday's gold medal. "Our girls really found a way to walk on that edge of having just enough anxiety-- but also confidence-- to perform at a great level."

As mentioned, the conference win was the Falcons' first since 2011, and the fifth in program history joining 1995, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011.
