Grantham, PA – The Messiah College women's track and field program had great success at the 2017 Messiah Track and Field Invitational. The Falcons came out on top and finished in first place (138.50 points) out of the 17 collegiate teams. Shippensburg (88 points) received second place and Dickinson (87 points) was close behind in third.
On the Track
Messiah was outstanding in the mid-long distance events during Saturday's meet. In the 5000m event,
Catherine Springer (18:25.94) brought home first place for the Falcons and
Alissa Rogers (18:31.07) wasn't far behind collecting a second place finish. In the 1500m race,
Maddison Landis (4:54.08) and
Natalie Ross (4:57.00) ran a close race and finished second and third, respectively.
Leanne Weaver had an outstanding day on the track for Messiah and won the 400m hurdles with a time of 65.58.
Kayla Miller also picked up a third place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:25.58.
In the 4x400m relay, Messiah's "A" squad finished in third place (4:16.11) just behind Gettysburg (4:13.36). The 4x800m relay was a similar story, the Falcons "A" team finished third (10:19.09) this time trailing behind a very solid Juniata team (10:04.78).
In the Jumps
The Falcons also had a successful day in the field events.
Marie Johnson finished first in the triple jump with a mark of 36'02.00"and
Rachael Romain collected a second place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 35'01.75".
Marie Johnson and
Elizabeth Cole were successful in the high jump for Messiah. Johnson finished in second with a jump of 5'02.25" and Cole collected third place jumping 5'02.25" as well.
Megan Renes brought home second place in the pole vault with a mark of 10'00" just behind Rikka Olson (11'03.75") from Dickinson.
In the Throws
Rebecca Querfeld, who won the Heptathlon, competed in the shot put for the Falcons and finished in seventh place overall.
Leah Springer (114'00") and
Lila Goodhile (113'11") finished sixth and seventh respectively in the javelin out of the 46 competitors.
Alyssa McMinn finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 118'09".
Messiah will be back in action on Apr. 12 when they complete in the York College Twilight Meet.
