DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - Benjamin Schott took home first-place overall and the Falcons had five of the top seven finishers as Messiah men's cross country cruised to a team title at the 2017 Delaware Valley Invitational on Saturday.

Schott's time of 16:05.2 was over 20 seconds faster than the second-place finisher from Jefferson. Kyler Shea (16:33.8) and Alex Scheib (16:41.7) placed third and fourth, respectively, followed by Zachary Lofties (16:49.9) and Nate Romberger (16:50.3) finishing sixth and seventh to give Messiah a near-perfect team score of 21. Shea and Romberger's high finishes were especially impressive as this was, as freshmen, the first race of their collegiate careers. The closest team to the Falcons was Jefferson, who finished in second-place with 67 total points, followed by Widener in third with 80 points.

"It's nice to have two freshmen in the top five," head coach Dale Fogelsanger said after the meet. "The upperclassmen also stepped it up after doing summer work, and everyone raced patiently in packs and finished strong."

The rest of Messiah's team was impressive as well, as they had 10 of the top 15 finishers and 15 of the top 25 runners overall.

The men will race again this Friday at Stevenson, with the starting time TBD.
