CARLISLE, Pa. - Messiah women's swimming dropped a tight, 109-96 battle against the Dickinson Red Devils on the road Tuesday evening. The Falcons claimed five of the 11 events contested on Tuesday, including both the 200 Medley and 200 Free Relays. Individually, Maelyn Elder (100 IM, 1:04.57), Cassie Cotton (200 Free, 56.17), and Kaylee Hollenbach (100 Back, 1:00.27) each took home the top spot in individual races.

The Falcons will be next in action this weekend when they travel to Washington and Lee for a two-day invitational beginning on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.

How It Happened
The Falcons started off their evening with a win in the 200 Medley Relay with the team of Kaylee Hollenbach, Nicea McCabe, Cassie Cotton, and Emily Decker getting to the wall in 1:52.03, nearly a second and a half ahead of the second-place Dickinson team.

Maelyn Elder had a strong day in the pool with a first and second-place finish. First, Elder claimed the 100 IM by just under four tenths of a second with a time of 1:04.57. Dickinson's Maddi Vlattas took second in a time of 1:04.96. Then in the very next event, Elder took second-place in the 100 Fly in a time of 1:01.29.

Cassie Cotton claimed the 100 Free with a time of 56.17, more than a second ahead of second-place in the only individual race that she competed in on the day.

Like Cotton, Kaylee Hollenbach competed in only one individual event on the day. Hollenbach earned the 100 Back (1:00.27) in convincing fashion with a nearly three second victory over Dickinson's Katie Schmidt (1:03.18), who finished in second place.

Nancie Ziegler took second in a pair of individual races on Tuesday night. In the 200 Free, the Messiah freshman finished in a time of 2:03.05 just over two seconds behind Dickinson's Olivia Lyman (2:01.02). Then in the 500 Free, Ziegler once again trailed only Lyman, taking second. Ziegler's time of 5:29.18 was just over five seconds behind Lyman's mark of 5:23.71.

Alley Sell also put together a pair of solid outings in the 100 IM and the 100 Breast. The junior took third in both races with a time of 1:05.35 in the 100 IM and a mark of 1:11.80 in the 100 Breast.

Messiah capped off the dual with a victory in the 200 Free Relay. The team of Hollenbach, Decker, Brittany Pond, and Cotton clocked in at 1:42.99 ahead of Dickinson's top-team (1:44.78) by almost two seconds. Despite the victory in the final race of the dual, Messiah fell just short in the team competition by a final score of 109-96.
