GRANTHAM, Pa. –The Falcons enter the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional meet after finishing third at the 2018 MAC Championships on Oct. 27. Regionals will be held in Center Valley, Pa. on Nov. 10.
The Seven
Messiah will look to
Leanne Weaver, the runner-up at the conference championship, to lead the way at regionals. Weaver made a late move to past competitors in the last 1000 meters of the course which ultimately secured her second-place finish.
Sarah Codd and
Leigha Southall will undoubtedly look to make in impact at this year's regional race. In the MAC Championship, Codd and Southall ran in a tight pack with Weaver, all coming through the first 1000 meters of the course in 3:49. Codd would go on to battle her way to a 12th-place finish with a time of 24:05.8. Southall came through the line just over 20 seconds later to finish in 18th-place.
Right behind Southall, another key runner for the Falcons, was
Maddison Landis. At the MAC Championships, Landis improved by 12 places from the start of the race to the midpoint and continued her charge that would put her in 19th-place, just two seconds away from Southall.
Messiah will also be relying on
Danielle Cardone and
Brieanna Hess to help improve the team's overall finish. Cardone and Hess finished the conference championship just five spots away from each other with Cardone in 28th and Hess in 33rd.
The last runner for Messiah in this weekend's regional race is
Cera Gaston who has remained tough this season, taking 42nd at the MAC Championship, despite being covered in mud from the slippery course.
In the Rankings
Messiah currently sits at ninth in the region behind conference opponents Misericordia (4th) and Lebanon Valley (7th). In the MAC Championship, the Falcons were just 8 points away from Lebanon Valley and enter this weekend with their sights set on a high finish.
