LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Four Messiah wrestlers competed in the competitive Lock Haven Classic on Saturday with Carter Urich (285 lbs.), David Stevens (165 lbs.), Lee Cassel (157 lbs.), and Victor DeFrance (184 lbs.) all in action. In brackets littered with Division I and II wrestlers, Urich and DeFrance led the Falcons' effort on the day with fourth and eighth-place finishes, respectively.

After dropping his first match of the day to Lock Haven's Ray Bernot by a 10-6 decision, Victor DeFrance advanced in the 184 lbs. consolation with an 11-7 decision over Lock Haven's Breylon Douglas. Unfortunately, the senior's day was cut short due to injury and he finished in eighth-place in the bracket.

In the top weight-class, Carter Urich squared off with eventual champion Isaac Reid (Lock Haven) in the first round and was pinned. A medical forfeit advanced Urich to the third-place match against Edinboro's Gaige Willis. While Urich fell short in the match, he earned a fourth-place finish on the day.

At 157 lbs. Lee Cassel went against an unattached TK Megonigal from Division II Lock Haven. Lee put up a tough fight, but dropped a 7-3 decision to drop into the consolation bracket where he squared off with Caleb Cass from Division I Cleveland State. Lee found himself on the wrong side of a 9-3 decision against Cass in his second, and final match of the day.

David Stevens also faced a Cleveland State wrestler on Saturday. At 165 lbs., Stevens squared off with Ryan Ford and dropped an 8-4 decision against the eventual third-place finisher. In the consolation bracket, Stevens was narrowly edged by unrostered David Cox by a 3-1 score to end his day on the mat.

Messiah will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 5 when they take the mat in the North-South Duals in Collegeville, Pa. on Ursinus' campus.
