Falcons Compete at Highlander Invitational

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at Houghton College today in the Highlander Invitational. Overall the team had a good showing and there were some personal PR's by individual athletes.
 
The Falcons next compete at the Susquehanna University Invitational on Feb. 16.
 
See below for notable performances from today's meet:
 
Women:
  • Danielle Cardone set a personal PR and finished first in the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:06.17.
  • McKenna Welshans finished seventh in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.78 seconds.
  • Rebecca Crosley (1:03.78) and Welshans (1:06.23) ran in the 400 meter dash finishing eighth and twelfth respectively.
  • Leanne Weaver put forth a strong performance in the 800 meter run finishing with a time of 2:23.61 for first place.
  • Kelsey Kennedy finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.70 seconds.
  • America Cervantes hit a personal PR in the pole vault with a mark of 2.45m.
  • The team of Weaver, Kayla Miller, Crosley, and Taylor Wiederrecht finished second in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:16.69.
  • Wiederrecht had a day finishing second in the long jump with a mark of 5.06m and then finished first in the high jump with a mark of 1.58m.
  • Rachael Romain placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 10.20m.
  • Elizabeth Lelonek set a personal record in the 5000 meter run with a time of 19:30.74.
  • Alyssa McMinn placed first in the 20lb weight throw with a throw of 13.43m.
 
Men
  • Olufemi Obadina finished sixth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.40.
  • Jack Franceschina ran the one-mile in a time of 4:48.37 for sixth place.
  • Aaron Gray won the 60-meter hurdles out of division III competitors with a PR mark of 8.70 seconds.
  • Caleb Christer competed in the pole vault and finished fourth with a mark of 3.95m.
  • In the men's long lump, Messiah swept the top three spots with Benjamin Danso (6.55m), Donnell McNari (6.48m), and Brendan Provan (6.35m) placing first, second and third respectively. Benjamin Danso also placed first in the high jump with a mark of 1.88m.
  • In the 800-meter run Matthew Royer finished second with a time of 1:59.27 and Tyler McFeaters in third place with a time of 2:01.97.
  • Galen Fitzkee ran in the 3000 meter run finishing second with a time of 9:09.43.
  • The 5000-meter run was a great one for Messiah as Benjamin Schott (15:30.38), Kyler Shea (15:40.71), Nate Romberger (15:48.46), and Kirk Mummert (15:57.05) finished in the top four spots.
