Bethlehem, PA - Messiah women's track & field competed in the last day of MAC Championships earlier today and overall placed third with 109 points behind Misericordia (150) and Stevenson (125) who finished first and second respectively. The highlight of this weekend's championship for the Falcons was most certainly Taylor Wiederrecht's performance in the pentathlon as she finished in first place with 3,311 points. That finish not only earned her First Team All-MAC honors, was a personal record in this event, MAC record, but aided in her being named the Indoor Field Athlete of the Year. Wiederrecht finished first in the high jump (1.643m), shot put (9.80m), long jump (4.95m), 800 meters (2:29) and placed second in the 60m hurdles, so no question this was her title to win. Lastly, her point total will most likely be among the top-15 in the country for the pentathlon. Wiederrecht also placed second in the high jump with a mark of 1.62m.

To add to that performance, Leanne Weaver competed very strong in the 800 meter run finishing in first with a season best time of 2:20.81. Kayla Miller placed fourth to earn points for the Falcons with a time of 2:25.15 and then Emma Fertig ran well enough to score in this race placing eighth with a PR finish time of 2:32.96.

Kristen Frawley ran in the 60 meter hurdles and finished second with a time of 9.17 that was a mere .001 off the winning time. Teammate Kelsie Kennedy placed fourth in the race with a time of 9.67 seconds.

Sarah Codd (19:18.18) and Danielle Cardone (19:22.12) both competed in the 5000 meter run earning personal records to finish eighth and ninth respectively.

Friday's Update - 9:30 p.m.
Messiah started the day by earning a silver medal and Second Team All-MAC honors in the Distance Medley Relay. The team of Kayla Miller, Rebecca Crosley, Mikayla Lewin, and Aja Cunningham finished with a season-best time of 12:56.87. Lewin was the driving force behind this second place finish as she ran the 1600m leg of the race and passed many other runners to move the Falcons from fourth to second.

Alyssa McMinn picked up some points in the women's 20lb. weight throw crushing the program record of 13.52, which she previously set this season. Her toss of 14.07m was good enough for a sixth place finish.

Megan Renes hit a PR in the pole vault with a mark 3.15m and finished in first place to earn First Team All-MAC honors for the second-straight year in this event.

Sarah Codd (19:18.18) and Danielle Cardone (19:22.12) both ran in the 5000 meter run and finished in eighth and ninth respetively. Taylor Wiederrecht finished eighth in the long jump but hit a PR mark of 5.12m and earned a point for Messiah.

In the 60m High Hurdles Messiah qualified two runners for the finals on Saturday: Kristen Frawley, Kelsie Kennedy. In the triple jump Rachael Romain hit a mark of 10.70m which was good enough for fourth place.
