PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Messiah track & field athletes Taylor Wiederrecht and Aaron Gray finished up competition at the Penn Relays today and both had strong performances in the women's heptathlon and men's decathlon.

Taylor Wiederrecht placed third among top competitors and collected a total of 4,121 points. She finished competition with strong marks in the long jump (4.92m), javelin (19.22m), and ran a 2:38.27 in the 800m run. Aaron Gray finished in ninth place with a total of 4,789 points. He ran a time of 16.04 seconds in the 110m hurdles, threw a mark of 35.11m in the discus, achieved a mark of 38.86m in the javelin, and ran a 5:27.42 in the 1500m run. 11429

Taylor Wiederrecht is competing in the women's heptathlon and starting the week off strong breaking the program record in the high jump with a mark of 1.66 meters. The previous record of 5' 4.25" was set by Hadlee Coker in 2014. After day one Wiederrecht is in second place with 3,254 points. She ran the 100m hurdles in 16.83 seconds, had a throw of 10.13 meters in the shot put, jumped a mark of 4.92 in the long jump, and ran a time of 26.48 in the 200 meter run.

Aaron Gray is competing in the men's decathlon and is in eighth place after day one with 2,657 points. Gray ran the 100m in 12.06 seconds, jumped a mark of 5.42 in the long jump, had a throw of 10.25 meters in the shot put, jumped 1.66 meters in the high jump, and ran the 400 meter run in 56.50 seconds.
