Falcons Run to Third Place Finish at MACS

CHESTER, Pa. - The Messiah men's track & field team earned a solid third place finish at MAC Championships today collecting a total of 149.5 points. They finished behind Stevenson and Widener who both tied with 173 total points. Overall a strong showing for the Falcons as multiple athletes earned top-3 finishes and All-MAC honors. Aaron Gray took home the title in the pole vault event clearing a mark of 4.15m and teammate Brett Garbrick placed fourth with a mark of 3.85m. Christian Pavlovich was another bright spot today winning the javelin for the second consecutive year throwing a mark of 62.89 meters crushing the record he previously set last year.

In the 110m hurdles, Donnell McNair placed third overall with a time of 15.55 seconds and Gray came in fourth with a time of 15.61 seconds. McNair also took second place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.46 seconds and is now ranked third in the all-time program record books for this event.

Matthew Royer competed in the 800-meter run placing fourth with a time of 1:55.29 moving into the program's top-10 and Alex Scheib finished eighth with a time of 1:56.50.

In the 1500-meter run a trio of Falcons earned big points for the team starting with Benjamin Schott who placed second and moved into third in the record books with a time of 3:54.80, Scheib came in third with a time of 3:56.15 and he is now ranked fourth in the record books. Tyler McFeaters was the final Falcon to earn points in this event with a fifth place finish running a time of 3:59.36 and currently sits in the ninth position in the all-time record books.

Erik Dyrli picked up points in the shot put throwing a mark of 13.16 meters for seventh place. Brenda Provan placed fourth in the triple jump with a solid mark of 13.68 meters and moves into the top-10 in the record books.

In the 4x400 meter relay the team of Matthew Royer, Derrick Peterson, Shane Braunworth, and Donnell McNair placed sixth with a time of 3:25.86.

Friday May 4
The Messiah men's track & field teams continued competition at MAC Championships today and the men's team is currently in first place with 63 points. Messiah is back in action again for the final day of MAC Championships with competition beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Benjamin Schott had a brilliant performance in the 3000m steeplchase taking home first place with a time of 9:33.68 finishing seven seconds ahead of his closest competitor. Tyler McFeaters had a strong performance placing third with a time of 9:46.78, Kirk Mummert (9:55.18) in fifth place and rounding it out was Kaleb Burch (10:19.89) in 12th place.

Matthew Royer (1:55.29) and Alex Scheib (1:56.50) both qualified for the finals of the 800-meter race with good performances in the preliminaries. Donnell McNair ran in the 400-meter hurlde prelims and qualified for the finals with a time of 55.76 seconds.

For the high jump event Benjamin Danso finished in second place with a mark of 1.96m, a new PR and places him in the top-10 in the program record books. McNair placed fourth with a jump of 1.93m tying his personal record as well as moving up in the record books.

The men's decathlon concluded today and Aaron Gray finished in second place with 5,740 points moving to fifth in the all-time record books and teammate Caleb Puleo was just behind in third with 5,521 points as he sits in the sixth all-time. Christian Pavlovich rounded it out for the Falcons in fifth with 5,143 points.

Thursday May 3
The Messiah men's track & field teams started competition at MAC Championships this evening with multiple athletes competing in six different events. In the men's decathlon Aaron Gray currently sits in third place with 2,918 points after day one. He earned those points by performing well in five events including the two PRs in the 400-meter run (54.15 sec) and the high jump (1.78m).

Caleb Puleo is in fourth place with a total of 2,912 points and Christian Pavlovich in seventh with a 2,717 points.

Zachary Lofties ran in the men's 10,000-meter race and finished seventh overall with a time of 33:17.89 with teammate Nate Romberger in 10th place with a time of 33:48.42 and Eric Delinger (37:16.04) also competed for the team.

The team of Matthew Royer, Alex Scheib, Derrick Peterson, and Jack Franceschina placed third in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 7:51.62. 

The Falcons will continue competition at MAC Championships tomorrow with field events starting at 10:00 a.m. and running events at 11:45 a.m. in CHESTER, Pa.
