Men's Track and Field Shows Well at Alvernia

READING, Pa. - The Falcons opened the 2019-20 season with a strong showing at the 2019 Golden Wolves Rust Buster in Alvernia's new indoor field house. Messiah placed in the top-five in the 60m, 800m, mile, 5,000m, 60m hurdles, high jump, pole vault, weight throw, and 4x400m relay. The Falcons picked up wins in the 5,000m (Nate Romberger, 15:45.32), mile (Matthew Royer, 4:32.20), and the 800m (Ryan Thurber, 2:05.45). 

In The Results
Brendan Provan highlighted the Falcons' efforts in the 60m, earning a fifth place finish after crossing the line in 7.45 seconds. Provan also highlighted Messiah's efforts in the long jump with a sixth place finish after jumping 6.03m (19' 9.5") on his final attempt of the day. 

In the 60m hurdles, a trio of Falcons set new personal bests on the day. Leading the way for the Falcons was Joel Rhinehart who took 4th after running 9.27 seconds. Michael Williams finished in fifth with a time of 9.29 seconds with Caleb Puleo rounding out the Falcons' performance in 9.31 seconds. 

Caleb Christner finished in second place for the Falcons in the pole vault after clearing 3.85m (12' 7.5"). Christner also ran the 200m, coming through the line in 24.78 seconds. 

Messiah took first through fourth in the 800m with Ryan Thurber earning the victory. Thurber worked his way around the track in 2:05.45 with Chad Long coming in second (2:06.63). The Falcons took first through eighth in the mile with Matthew Royer (first, 4:31.20), Logan Horst (second, 4:39.17), and Isaac Covert (third, 4:39.43) leading the pack. 

Nate Romberger won the 5,000m for the Falcons, coming through the line in 15:45.32. Matt Higgs was the next Falcon to cross the line, finishing in third with a time of 16:37.17.

Andrew Schott led the way for Messiah in the high jump, clearing 1.74m (5' 8.5") on his second attempt to take second place. Caleb Puleo cleared 1.65m (5' 5") to take third place.

Zachary Zigarelli took fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 11.97m. Ian Mcllrath hit 9.54m in the shot put while Issac Parada threw 8.37m. 

What's Up Next
The Falcons will be back in action on Jan. 17 and 18 at Susquehanna University after a long Christmas break.
