EWING, N.J. - The Messiah wrestling team suffered a 34-7 defeat against the No. 13 TCNJ Lions on Saturday night. Josiah Gehr got the Falcons off to a strong start with a major decision at 125 lbs., but the Lions won the next four bouts with a pair of technical falls, a major decision, and a decision to take a 17-4 lead into the 165 lbs. match.

David Stevens then claimed a sudden victory decision at 165 lbs. to get Messiah back on the board, bringing the score to 17-7.

The Lions controlled the remainder of the match with four-straight victories to claim the 34-7 win.

For the second-straight night, Gehr got the Falcons off to a quick start by winning the first match of the evening. Gehr claimed a convincing 17-4 victory over Christian Deehan to put Messiah up 4-0.

As mentioned, a pair of technical falls, a major decision, and a decision followed for TCNJ to put the Lions up 17-4 heading to the 165 lbs. bout. David Stevens earned a pair of first-period takedowns, but TNCJ's John Garda battled back and eventually tied the score in the third period at 4-4 to force an extra period. In sudden victory, Stevens wasted little time getting in deep on a shot and finishing off the 6-4 sudden victory decision.

After Stevens' decision, Messiah trailed 17-7, but that was as close as they would get for the remainder of the dual as the Lions earned back-to-back majors, a decision, and a fall to wrap-up the dual. With the 34-7 victory, TCNJ has claimed 16-straight dual wins and moves to 16-1 on the season.

With the loss, Messiah falls to 15-6 on the season, but will be back in action on Wednesday when they host the McDaniel Green Terror at 7:00 p.m. in Hitchcock Arena to complete the 2018-19 regular season.
