CHESTER, Pa. - The Falcons started their 2019 season a 12th-place finish at the Danny Curran Invitational which included a handful of MAC-qualifying marks.
Day One Results
Highlighting the Falcons' efforts was
Benjamin Schott who ran his way to a program record in the 5,000m. Schott finished in fourth-place overall out of 103 competitors after coming through the line in 14:40.56.
Josiah McCarthy (17:20.08) and
Mario Cosentino (18:49.23) made their freshmen debuts in the 5,000m with strong efforts on the day as well.Â
Messiah was led by
Kyler Shea and
Nate Romberger in the 10,000m. Shea came through the line in 31:44.16, good for sixth-place in the meet and third on Messiah's top-10 list. Romberger finished the day in 12th-place with a 32:56.75.
Kirk Mummert (33:21.45),
Matt Higgs (33:29.80),
Eric Denlinger (33:47.14), and
Adam Barley (35:14.31) also competing in the 10,000m for the Falcons.Â
In the field events, Erik Dryli led the way for Messiah, earning a seventh-place finish in the discus with a 35.93m throw. Dryli finished 10th in the shot put with a throw of 12.17m. Also in the shot put was freshmen
Christian Pilawski who finished in 27th-place with a throw of 11.16m.
Day Two Results
Brendan Provan highlighted the Falcons' efforts in the 100m dash, coming through the line in 11.34, qualifying him for the outdoor conference championship. Provan also led the Falcons in the 200m and triple jump with MAC-qualifying performances. In the 200m, Provan came through the line in 23.26 seconds and hit a mark of13.20m in the triple jump. Â
Andrew Schott and
Caleb Puleo represented the Falcons in the 110m hurdles with Schott finishing the race in 16.60 seconds while Puleo finished in 16.91. Schott's time qualifies him for the conference championship. Schott also made his debut in the 400m hurdles, coming through the line in 1:03.81. Schott was joined by
Joel Rhinehart (1:02.03) and
Ezra Lee (1:10.13) in the 400m hurdles.
Matthew Royer was the first Falcon to finish in the 400m, coming through the line in 51.12 seconds.
Ryan Thurber came through the finish in 52.73 to hit just under the MAC standard in the event.Â
The Falcons had three MAC qualfiers in the 1500m with
Alex Scheib leading the way. Scheib came across the line in 4:01.38 while
Brandin Dyche finished in 4:11.89 and
Silas Buckwalter finishing in 4:13.52.Â
After a record-breaking performance yesterday in teh 5,000m,
Benjamin Schott came back for more and ran a 1:55.36 in the 800m, putting him ninth all-time in program history.Â
Erik Dyrli qualified for the outdoor conference championship in hammer with a mark of 35.63m.Â
Caleb Christner qualified for MAC's in the pole vault after a 3.98m clearance. Christer, along with
Benny Cole,
Caleb Puleo, and
Brendan Provan, was a part of the 4x100m relay team that ran 44.10s today.Â
