Puleo Fights Through Rain To Claim First Collegiate Decathlon Win

GRANTHAM, Pa - In a day filled with rain and wind, Caleb Puleo fought his way through the second day to take first place out of all NCAA competitors. Puleo finished the day with a total of 5,946 points, putting him 385 points ahead of the next NCAA decathlete. 

In The Results
After a career-high 3,041 points on Day One of the Messiah Multi decathlon, Caleb Puleo battled through harsh weather to earn his first collegiate decathlon win against NCAA competitors.  Puleo started the day with a 17.14 second 110m hurdle race to grab 610 points. Puleo moved to discus and threw 24.12m on his first attempt. Puleo's next two throws were sector fouls so his 24.12m mark was his lone legal throw, adding 350 points to his score. With rain picking up, Puleo moved to pole vault and ended the day with a clearance of 3.44m, good for 467 points. Puleo led the field in javelin, throwing 45.01m on his last attempt to earn 515 more points. Puleo made his way through the 1500m in 5:08.33 to round out his performance and add 513 points to his score, giving him 5,496 points through the 10 events.

In the men's discus, Erik Dyrli highlighted the Falcons' efforts with a mark of 35.96m on his final attempt, good for 15th place. Zacahry Zigarelli and Christian Pilawski followed closely behind with marks of 33.74m and 33.68m, putting them in 17th and 18th place, respectively.

Tomorrow is the third and final day of the Messiah Multi Invitational with events starting at 10:00 a.m. and continuing through the evening.
