Falcons Finish Regular Season At Paul Kaiser Invitational

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Falcons finished regular season competition in blistering wind with clear skies at the Paul Kaiser Invitational hosted by Shippensburg University. Messiah will now look to battle for the 2019 MAC Outdoor Track and Field title after being voted third in the Coaches' Poll earlier this week. 

On The Track
Brendan Provan led the way for Messiah in the 100m, coming through the line in 11.31 seconds. Pat Zahn also run sub-12 seconds with a time of 11.97 despite a -6.8 headwind during his heat. Provan also led Messiah in the 200m, finishing the race with a time of 23.19 seconds. 

Shane Braunworth highlighted the Falcons' efforts in the 400m as he ran a 55.04.

Matthew Royer led Messiah in the 800m, coming through the line in 1:59.31. Alex Scheib edged out a runner from Franklin and Marshall in the home stretch, finishing the race in 2:00.00 while the Diplomat finished in 2:00.01. Ryan Thurber also ran a MAC qualifying time in the 800m as he came through the line in 2:01.52. 

Benjamin Schott finished in first place in the 1,500m with a time of 3:59.79, almost five seconds ahead of second place. 

Kyler Shea represented the Falcons in the 3,000, finishing in third place with a time of 8:59.17. Mario Cosentino was the lone Falcon to compete in the 5,000m, finishing the race with a time of 18:56.19.

In the 110m hurdles, Andrew Schott led the way for Messiah with a lifetime personal best time of 16.41 seconds while running into a -9.6 headwind. In the 400m hurdles, Joel Rhinehart ran a 1:03.07 to lead the Falcons.

Josiah McCarthy ran the 3,000m steeplechase in 11:00.96 to represent the Falcons in the event.

Messiah's 4x400m relay team of Joel Rhinehart, Shane Braunworth, Cassidy Hoffman, and Brandin Dyche put together a time of 3:41.10.

Field Events
Andrew Schott (1.72m) and Dale Lingle (1.67m) led the way for Messiah in the high jump.

Caleb Christner cleared a height of 4.15m in the men's pole vault to highlight the Falcons' efforts in the event.

Stephen Worden set a new personal best in the long jump with a mark of 5.91m. 

Brendan Provan was the lone Falcon in the triple jump and finished the day with a jump of 12.94m.

Erik Dyrli (11.51m) and Christian Pilawski (11.28m) were the standouts for the Falcons in the shot put. Pilawski hit a lifetime personal best of 41.40m in the discus which puts him in the top-eight in the conference. Zachary Zigarelli highlighted the Falcons' performance in the hammer with a throw of 35.01m. 

In the javelin, Caleb Puleo led Messiah with a throw of 45.75m.

Next week the Falcons will compete at the 2019 Outdoor MAC Track and Field Championships on May 2-4 at Widener University.
