Monarchs Swim Past Falcons In Conference Dual

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Falcons dropped a conference dual with the King's College (Pa.) Monarchs 157-104. Messiah claimed wins in five events, including the 1,000 yard freestyle, 100 yard breaststroke, 50 yard freestyle, 500 yard freestyle, and the 200 yard freestyle relay. Of those events, Nancie Ziegler led the way, winning both the 1,000 yard freestyle and the 500 yard freestyle, while Alley Sell claimed the 100 yard breaststroke and Nicea McCabe won the 50 yard freestyle. The Falcons' 200 freestyle relay team of Nancie Ziegler, Emily Griesemer, Rachel Bruns, and Nicea McCabe won with a time of 1:46.05.
 
Messiah is now 3-3 on the season and 3-2 in the conference. The Falcons will be back in the pool on Jan. 17 for a double-dual with Stevenson University and Immaculata University at 5:00 p.m. in the Fredricksen Natatorium here in Grantham.

How It Happened
The Falcons started the day with a second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay as Maelyn Elder, Rachel Bruns, Alley Sell, and Nicea McCabe combined for a 1:57.43. Ziegler then won the 1,000 yard freestyle for the Falcons, finishing the race in 11:20.93 to earn nine points for the team. Ziegler also won the 500 yard freestyle later in the day, coming to the finish in 5:37.45. 
 
Maelyn Elder finished in third in the 200 yard freestyle as she swam the race in 2:10.80. In the 100 yard backstroke, Molly Elspas led the way for Messiah with a third place finish (1:06.83) while Nicole Lee finished in fourth with a time of 1:07.75. 
 
The Falcons won the 100 yard breaststroke as Alley Sell swam a 1:12.35 to take first with teammate Rachel Bruns taking second place with a time of 1:13.02. Nancie Ziegler took second place in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:24.56.
 
Nicea McCabe took first place in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.65 seconds. McCabe then came in second place in the 100 yard freestyle as she swam a 58.34 second race. Emily Griesemer came in fourth place in the event with a time of 1:00.84. 
 
Maelyn Elder finshed the 200 yard backstroke in 2:19.83 to take second place while Nicole Lee finished in fifth place with a time of 2:30.58. In the 200 yard breaststroke, Rachel Bruns and Alley Sell took second and third with times of 2:41.45 and 2:43.01, respectively. Sell finished in third place in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:07.42, edging out teammate Molly Elspas who finished with a time of 1:07.89 to take fourth place. Maelyn Elder led the way for Messiah in the 200 yard IM, finishing the race in 2:24.64 while Molly Elspas took third with a time of 2:28.59. The Falcons ended the day with a win in the 200 yard freestyle relay as Nancie Ziegler, Emily Griesemer, Rachel Bruns, and Nicea McCabe swam their way to a total time of 1:46.05.

As mentioned, the Falcons fell to the Monarchs with a final score of 157-104 and are now 3-3 on the season and 3-2 in the conference. Messiah will return to Grantham for their next meet with a double dual against Stevenson University and Immaculate University on Jan. 17 at 5:00 p.m.
