Men's Swimming Splits Double-Dual with York and Lebanon Valley

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Messiah men's swimming team hosted the York Spartans and Lebanon Valley Dutchmen on Saturday afternoon and earned a split on the day. Messiah handled the Dutchmen with a comfortable 197-45 victory over Lebanon Valley, but fell 143-116 against the York Spartans.
 
Messiah claimed six individual events on the day with Adam Barley highlighting the effort with three victories in the 100 Back (53.18), 200 Back (1:59.28), and 100 Fly (54.48). The Falcons capped off the day with a victory in the 200 Free Relay with the team of Barley, Andrew Leeper, Daniel Logan, and Tyler Wilkinson teaming up for a time of 1:28.56, just out touching York's top team (1:28.90).
 
The Falcons opened up their day with a second-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Tyler Wilkinson, Isaac McCabe, Ridge Hagar, and Andrew Leeper finished in second by a little less than a second and a half, getting to the wall in 1:40.29.
 
In the first individual event of the day, Mason Kennedy won the 1000 Free in a time of 10:36.78, nearly five seconds ahead of York's Tanner Russell, who finished in second with a time of 10:41.36.
 
As mentioned, Avery Barley was the story for the Falcons on the afternoon. The freshman won three events, starting with the 100 Back. With a time of 53.18, Barley was a full body length clear of second place. Barley continued his strong performance with a victory in the 200 Back, getting to the wall in under two minutes at 1:59.28. His final individual event of the day was the 100 Fly, an event he claimed by just over second with a time of 54.48.
 
Along with Barley, Tyler Wilkinson also had a strong performance in the 200 Back. Wilkinson finished the event in third, touching in 2:03.61. Wilkinson also earned a second-place finish in the 200 Free earlier in the meet, finishing in a time of 1:49.67. His time was less than a second and a half behind the winning time from York's Connor McIlroy (1:48.26).
 
The 200 Breast was another highlight for the Falcons on the day with Messiah taking the top two spots. Isaac McCabe won the event in 2:18.65, using a strong third lap to take over the lead. Ridge Hagar was next to the wall after a feverish finish. Hagar's final split of 35.49 was the fastest in the pool by more than a second and a half and allowed the junior to take second in a time of 2:18.75.
 
In addition to his strong finish in the 200 Breast, Hagar showed his versatility by winning the 200 Fly (2:02. 56) and taking second in the 200 IM (2:02.33).
 
Andrew Leeper led the charge for the Falcons in the sprint events, taking second in the 50 Free by hustling to the wall in 22.78 and third in the 100 Free with a mark of 50.83.
 
Other strong performances included Isaac McCabe taking third in the 100 Breast (1:02.80) and Mason Kennedy finishing second in the 500 Free (5:08.46).
 
The Falcons will wrap-up the regular season next weekend when they host the Misericordia Cougars and Albright Lions on Feb. 1 on 1:00 p.m.
