Falcons Split Final Meet of Regular Season

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Messiah women's swimming team ended the 2019-2020 regular season on Saturday afternoon in Frederickson Natatorium. The Falcons defeated the Albright Lions 153-98, but fell to the Misericordia Cougars 170-85.

Messiah's performance resulted in three victories on the day, which featured a new pool record set by Nancie Ziegler in the 1650 Free (18:21.37).
 
The Falcons will return to action in a couple of weeks at the MAC Championships in York, Pa. at the Graham Aquatic Center from Feb. 13-16.
 
As mentioned, Nancie Ziegler had quite the day in the pool for the Falcons. After finishing first in the 1000 Free Relay with a time of 11:08.27, Ziegler went on to set a new pool record in the 1650 Free with a time of 18:21.37. She collected another first place finish in the 500 Free (5:28.75) and took third in the 200 Free (11:08.27).
 
Alley Sell was also all over the leaderboard for Messiah taking second place in the 100 Breast (1:10.58), 200 Breast (2:36.41), and 100 Fly (1:03.82). Teammate Rachel Bruns finished just behind Sell in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:12.24, earning her fourth place in the event.
 
Sell was joined by fellow Falcons Maelyn Elder, Katelyn Boyce, and Nicea McCabe for a second-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:57.46. Messiah's 400 Free Relay team consisting of Nicole Lee, Emily Griesemer, Rachel Bruns, and Nancie Ziegler also took second in the final event of the day (3:54.67).

Maelyn Elder contributed to the Falcons' success by claiming first place in the 200 Back (2:19.56).

Katelyn Boyce touched for two top three finishes on the day in the 200 Fly and 200 Back with times of 2:23.42 and 2:21.94, respectively.

Nicea McCabe earned second place in the 50 Free with a time of 25.57.

Nicole Lee and Molly Elspas finished just two tenths of a second off of each other in the 100 Back, claiming fifth and sixth place, respectively.    

The Falcons will be back in the pool Feb. 13-16 at the Graham Aquatic Center in York, Pa. for the MAC Championships.
