Romberger Wins the 5000, Falcons Turn in Strong Performances

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Messiah men's track and field team earned a total of nine top-10 finishes on Saturday at Susquehanna. Nate Romberger highlighted the day with a victory in the 5,000 Meter, winning the event with a time of 15:48.22. Romberger won the event by a little over two seconds with Dickinson's Jacob Doherty Munro hot on his heels with a time of 15:50.47.

The Falcons earned multiple top-10 marks in the pole vault with Caleb Christner taking ninth with a height of 3.75 meters and Clayton Miller finishing in 10th with a mark of 3.60 meters.

Brendan Provan took home second place in the triple jump with a distance of 13.63 meters. He was the top Division III competitor, behind only Kris Joint's (Unattached) mark of 14.80 meters. In addition to his runner-up finish in the triple jumper, Provan was a top-10 finisher in the 60 Meter. With a time of 7.31, Provan took ninth in the event.

Andrew Schott qualified for the finals in the 60 Meter Hurdles with a time of 9.09. He was the last qualifying time in the field, but increased a spot in the finals with a time of 9.20 to take fifth in the event.

In the mile, Alex Scheib brought home fifth place in a time of 4:30.93. Scheib was less than six seconds behind the winning time of 4:24.16, turned in by Gettysburg's Samuel Sheldon.

Messiah's relay teams also turned in strong performances with the team of Chris Muchimba, Brendan Provan, Caleb Christner, and Josiah Zehr finishing the 4x200 Meter Relay with a time of 1:35.33 to take third in the event. In the Distance Medley Relay, Messiah also claimed a third-place finish with the squad of Max Weaver, Connor Daudt, Sam Rasinske, and Chad Long hustling around the track in 11:42.63.

The Falcons will be back in action in the Kutztown Last Chance Qualifier next Friday, Feb. 21, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
