Falcons Earn Multiple Top-10 Finishes at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - On Saturday the Messiah women's track and field team was in action at the Susquehanna Invitational. Messiah turned in a number of strong performances with a total of 13 top-10 performances. Taylor Wiederrecht finished second in the 400 meter run in a time of 1:01.02 for the highest finish of any Falcon on the day. Kelsie Kennedy earned three top-10 finishes in the 60 Meter (eighth - 8.55), 200 Meter (ninth - 27.82), and 60 Meter Hurdles (seventh - 10.02).

Messiah claimed three of the top six spots in the 5,000 Meter with Teddi Powell (19:22.02), Joy Galbraith (19:39.92), and Kate Prothero (20:00.99), finishing third, fifth, and sixth in the event, respectively.

The Falcons will be back on the track at the Kutztown Last Chance Qualifier next Friday, Feb. 21. The meet is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.

In the Results
As mentioned, Taylor Wiederrecht finished second in the 400 Meter with a time of 1:01.02. She was the top finisher among Division III competitors. Rebecca Crosley and Emma Johnsen finished back-to-back in the event, both claiming top-15 finishes with times of 1:05.10 and 1:05.52 in 14th and 15th, respectively.

In addition to her runner-up finish in the 400 Meter, Wiederrecht earned a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 11.30 meter.s Lila Goodhile also earned a top-15 finish in the event with a mark of 10.38 meter to take 13th.

Kelsie Kennedy picked up three top-10 finishes on Saturday in the 60 Meter, 200 Meter, and 60 Meter Hurdles. Kennedy finished just outside the finals in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 10.02 seconds in the prelims to finish in seventh. Her top-10 marks in the 60 Meter (eighth place) and 200 Meter (ninth place) came in times of 8.55 and 27.82, respectively.

Less than a quarter second behind Kennedy in the 200 Meter was Julia Geisheimer with a time of 28.06, finishing the event in 11th place.

Messiah placed a trio of runners in the top-10 in the 5,000 Meter with Teddi Powell (19:22.02), Joy Galbraith (19:39.92), and Kate Prothero (20:00.99), finishing third, fifth, and sixth in the event, respectively.

Sophomore Emily Gourley tied for eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.45 meters, while Chole Wester took sixth in the mile (5:38.25) and Laura Kruth finished 10th in the 800 Meter (2:29.09) to round out Messiah's top-10 individual performances.

In the relays, Messiah finished ninth in the 4x400 Relay with the team of Brieanna Hess, Cassidy Chandler, Madison Myers, and Emma Fertig taking ninth with a time of 4:31.86. In the Distance Medly Relay, that same squad took fourth, crossing the line in 13:42.39.

What's Up Next
The Falcons will be back in action next Friday when they travel to the Kutztown Last Chance Qualifier. Events are slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. on Feb. 21.
