Boyce Named Rookie of the Year, Falcons Finish Sixth

YORK, Pa. - The Messiah women's swimming team earned a sixth-place finish at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships this weekend with 792 team points. Katelyn Boyce highlighted the weekend effort, earning MAC Rookie of the Year honors after winning the 400 IM (4:37.62) and picking up top-five finishes in the 200 IM (fourth - 2:12.26) and 200 Fly (fifth - 2:12.98).
 
As mentioned, the Falcons finished sixth in the team standings with 792 points. The Stevens Ducks won the Championship with a MAC-record 1,178.5 points. Misericordia (1,131 points), Arcadia (970.5), Widener (863), and King's (799) rounded out the top-five on the weekend.
 
Messiah earned a pair of All-Conference honors on Sunday thanks to a second-place finish from Nancie Ziegler in the 1650 Free with a time of 17:47.92 and a third-place finish from Alley Sell in the 200 Breast in 2:27.08. For both Ziegler and Sell is was their second All-Conference honor of the weekend. Earlier in the weekend, Ziegler finished third in the 200 Free and Sell took third in the 100 Breast.
 
Rachel Bruns competed in the 'A' Final of the 200 Breast alongside Sell. Bruns finished eighth in the event with a time of 2:33.42.
 
The Falcons were extremely well represented in the 200 Back with three swimmers picking up top-25 finishes. Maelyn Elder led the group with a fourth-place finish, getting to the wall in 2:11.97. Molly Elspas finished the event in 10th place with a time of 2:15.17 and Nicole Lee took 22nd with a mark of 2:19.75.
 
Emily Griesemer competed in the 'C' Final in the 100 Free, finishing the event in 22nd place with a time of 57.38.
 
The team of Boyce, Elder, Bruns, and Ziegler took sixth in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:43.66 in the event.
 
As a team, Messiah earned 792 points, finishing the weekend in sixth place among the 13 teams at the Championships.
 
Boyce earned a trio of top-five finishes to claim Rookie of the Year honors at the Championship. She becomes the sixth Falcon to be named Rookie of the Year honors. All six have been won in the last seven years.
