WINCHESTER, Va. - On Saturday afternoon the Messiah women's track and field team sent a small handful of Falcons to the South Region NCAA Final Qualifier at the Kayne and JJ Smith Track, hosted by Shenandoah University. Messiah earned first place finishes in all three events in which they competed.
Kathryn Wiederrecht and
Esther Seeland won the 200 Meter and 400 Meter, respectively.
Ellissa Slader finished second in the 400 Meter, less than a second behind Seeland.
Messiah's only other entry was the 4x400 Meter Relay. The Falcons turned in a time of 4:06.52, blowing the only other team in the field (Mary Baldwin) away by nearly 40 seconds.
As mentioned,
Kathryn Wiederrecht won the 200 Meter in a time of 26.13, winning the event by more than a second ahead of Ursinus' Dominique Timmons (27.17).
In the 400 Meter,
Esther Seeland and
Ellissa Slader crossed the line in first and second with times of 58.01 and 58.91, respectively. Seeland's time places her nationally in the top-20 unofficially. She now has three top-20 national times in the 400 Meter, 800 Meter, and Mile.
In the 4x400 Meter, the team of Slader,
Kelsie Kennedy, Wiederrecht, and Seeland combined to turn in a time of 4:06.52 in the event.
