Men's Track & Field Competes In Messiah Multi / Distance Carnival

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah men's track & field team competed in the Messiah Multi and Distance Carnival at Starry Track on Thursday and Friday afternoon. Brody Beiler turned in the best performance of the afternoon, placing a winning time of 14:50.63 in the 5000. Beiler's time was the third-best in Messiah program history, as Josiah Provan placed second out of four competitors in his first-ever decathlon.

The Falcons recorded 16 team points, placing fourth out of eight teams.

The decathlon began on Thursday afternoon at Starry Track, as Provan competed against Adam Loehr (Alvernia), Bryce Steele (Misericordia), and Alex Sabo (Lebanon Valley). Provan
shined in the javelin throw and the 110 hurdles. The sophomore decathlete recorded a distance of 44.13 meters in the javelin throw, while posting a time of 18.43 seconds in the 110 hurdles. Provan finished with 4904 total points, qualifying for a second-place finish.

Beiler placed a third-best time in Messiah program history in the 5000. Kyle Costello turned in a third-place, crossing in 15:58.23, as Xander Smith turned in a quality time of 17:08.39.

Messiah had four runners compete in the 10000. Andrew Hutchinson topped all Falcon runners, placing a time of 34:41.73, followed by Noah Calisti (34:57.35), Jonathan Wyrick (35:40.01), and Derek Guissanie (36:53.04).

The 1500 was ran in four separate heats, as a total of six Falcons competed in the final three heats of the event. Logan Horst turned in a second-place finish in the third heat, getting clipped by DeSales' Carl Tyce by under a second. Josiah Moyer contributed a notable time of 4:12.66, as Chad Long (4:23.65), Isaac Covert (4:24.40), Tyler McNair (4:28.39), and Jack Daudt (4:28.60) all performed well in the event. Long's time was a winning mark in the first heat, as Moyer topped all runners in the second heat.

Messiah will be back in action tomorrow, Apr. 10, at Starry Track to complete the Messiah Invitational, set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
