CHESTER, Pa. – The Messiah men's track and field team competed in the opening day of the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Widener University on Thursday afternoon.
Brody Beiler highlighted the Day One efforts, registering a second-place finish in the 10000 (31:33.91). Despite being edged out by Widener's Franklin Livolsi (31:28.28), Beiler recorded the fourth-fastest 10000 time in Messiah men's track program history.
Beiler entered the competition with a conference-leading time of 31:18.06, placing a top-two mark in Messiah men's track program history at the Falcon First Chance Hexagonal on Mar. 19. In addition to the 10000, Beiler is gearing up to compete in the 3000 steeplechase, 1500, and 5000 this weekend.
Josiah Provan competed in five events of the decathlon today, compiling 2786 points to place himself fourth in the standings. Of the five events competed, Provan earned personal best times in two (100, 400). With a time of 11.83 in the 100 and a time of 54.36 in the 400, Provan shattered previous college-best marks, setting himself up for Day Two of the competition tomorrow.
Provan competed in the decathlon at the Messiah Multi/Invitational (Apr. 6-8), earning an overall score of 4904 points, earning second-place finishes in the high jump (5' 5") and 110 hurdles (18.43). The decathlon will conclude tomorrow with the 100, long jump, shot put, high jump, and 400.
A 4x800 relay team of
Logan Horst,
Ryan Thurber,
Chad Long, and
Tyler McNair finished with a time of 8:05.47, earning a fifth-place finish. Horst recorded the fastest split (1:59.74) of the team, as Thurber competed in his second 4x800 at a MAC Outdoor Championship Meet, contributing to a third-place finish in the 2019 conference championship event.
At the end of Day One, Messiah has a total of 12 team points, sitting in fifth place out of nine teams.
The Falcons are back in action tomorrow, May 7, for Day Two of the MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Chester, Pa. The second day of competition is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m.
