AUSTIN, Texas – On Tuesday afternoon, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced its Academic All-American teams for the 2020-2021 academic year. Messiah track and field athletes
Brody Beiler (3.94 GPA) and
Esther Seeland (3.99 GPA) each claimed First Team accolades to add to their All-American performances earned in May at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships. Seeland claims her second CoSIDA Academic All-American award (women's soccer) of the 2020-2021 academic year.
In addition to earning her second CoSIDA Academic All-American Award of the academic school year, Seeland now has three accolades after earning the award during the 2019-2020 school year (women's track field). Beiler earns his first Academic All-American Award of his Falcon career just a few weeks after being named Academic All-District. Seeland was also honored with an Academic All-District honor, her second of the academic year.
As mentioned, Beiler and Seeland each competed at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in May, each notching All-American performances. Seeland claimed her second National Championship in the 800 meter (2:02.52), setting a new National Championship Meet record. While holding the top time in the nation in the 800 meter, Seeland also held the top time in the 400 meter (55.30), also holding the third-fastest time in the 1500 meter (4:27.39). Beiler earned his first All-American honor as a Falcon in the championship meet, placing sixth in the 800 meter finals with a time of 1:54.09. Earning All-Region honors in three different events (800, 1500, 10000), Beiler etched his name in the top-four in those three events in the Messiah track and field program record book.
Beiler completed his first year in the Masters of Higher Education Program, while Seeland completed her junior year as a biomedical engineering major.
