How It Happened
Messiah jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead thanks to a first-period fall from
Hunter Rinehart at 125 lbs. Rinehart tallied a pair of takedowns before racking up six nearfall points. After Rinehart and Gettysburg's Bobby Crofford traded reversals, Rinehart earned the fall with just 13 seconds remaining in the opening period with his toes hanging on the edge of the mat.
Gettysburg earned a major decision at 133 lbs., but Messiah came right back with their second fall of the night, this one coming from
Asa Brunk at 141 lbs. Brunk and Jake Stein battled into the third period in a low-scoring bout. Just 10 seconds in to the third, Brunk claimed the first takedown of the bout with a headlock and just few moments later earned fall in 5:30.
A dominating 13-1 major decision from
Josiah Gehr followed at 149 lbs. and an 18-3 technical fall from
Nick Barnhart at 157 lbs. gave the Falcons a 21-4 lead midway through the dual. Gehr and Barnhart combined for five sets of nearfall points, four takedowns, and a pair of reversals en route to their comfortable victories.
After a first-period pin by Gettysburg's Ray Martin at 165 lbs., Messiah rattled off back-to-back decisions from
John Sumner and Ryder Slaton at 174 lbs. and 184 lbs., respectively. Sumner earned all five of his points in a 5-1 victory in the third period while Slayton picked up a first-period takedown while claiming a 4-1 decision.
Gettysburg earned a 7-3 decision at 197 lbs., before
Carter Urich capped off the evening with a fall in 2:03 at 285 lbs. Urich earned three takedowns and two sets of nearfall points before eventually sticking Antoni Esquivias with 53 seconds remaining in the first period.
Urich's fall was his 10th of the season and gave the Falcons a 33-13 victory. Messiah won seven of the 10 bouts, earning bonus points in five of their seven victories.
