Men's Swimming Finishes Sixth at MAC Championships

YORK, PA - The Messiah men's swimming team finished in sixth place at the MAC Championships held at the Graham Aquatics Center in York, Pa. PJ Cronauer was the lone Falcon to earn an All Conference Honor, winning the 1650 yard freestyle. The Falcons ended with 651 points in sixth place.

Sunday Feb. 13
The Falcons got their first conference honor with a win from PJ Cronauer in 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 16:39.64. It was the first and only conference honor the Falcons would receive on the weekend and in the process, Cronauer broke the school record in the event. The previous record was held by Jeremy Wakeley with a time of 16:44.39, set on Feb. 14, 2016. Mason Kennedy finished 13th with a time 17:28.44. 

In the 100 yard freestyle, Mark Lukens was the highest placing Falcon in 17th place at 49.10. Jacob Whipple finished in 24th with a time of 50.90.

Later in the 200 yard backstroke, Johnathon Lacayo finished 19th at 2:05.31. In 21st Mitch DiFante finished with a time of 2:10.98.

In the 200 yard breaststroke, Isaac McCabe got fifth with a time of 2:11.76 while Michael Shoul finished in 16th at 2:19.29. 

In the final event of the weekend for the men, the 400 yard freestyle relay team of PJ Cronauer, Jacob Whipple, Isaac McCabe and Mark Lukens finished in seventh with a time of 3:19.18. Their teammates Sage Sobek, Joseph McGillen, Ben Clarke and Johnathon Lacayo finished in 21st at 3:26.19.

Saturday Feb.12
In the 200 yard butterfly, PJ Cronauer finished 11th with a time of 2:02.96. Andrew Roberti finished in 14th with a time of 2:05.48 while Ben Clarke finished with a time of 2:09.20 which earned him a 16th place finish. 

In the 100 yard backstroke the highest placing Falcon was Johnathon Lacayo in 17th place. Later in the 100 yard breaststroke, Isaac McCabe earned a sixth place finish with a time 1:00.50. 

Then, in the 800 yard freestyle relay, the team of Mark Lukens, Sage Sobek, Mason Kennedy and PJ Cronauer finished sixth with a time of 7:19.30. Their teammates Jacob Whipple, Joseph McGillen, Ben Clarke and Andrew Roberti finished in 19th at 7:50.83.

The Falcons remain in sixth place overall with 482 points. Stevens holds a commanding lead with 1046 points. 

Friday Feb. 11
In the first event on the afternoon, the team of Jacob Whipple, Isaac McCabe, Sage Sobek and Mark Lukens finished in sixth place with a time 1:28.64. The next Messiah team was 21st place with a time of 1:33.64. That team consisted of Johnathon Lacayo, Michael Shoul, Mason Kennedy and PJ Cronauer

In the 400 yard IM, Mason Kennedy finished in 10th place with a time of 4:26.88. Ben Clarke finished in 16th place with a time of 4:48.31. 

In the 100 yard butterfly, Johnathon Lacayo was the highest finishing Falcon who clocked in at 54.51, good enough for seventh place. Andrew Roberti finished in 16th place with a time of 56.01. 

Later in the 200 yard freestyle, Sage Sobek finished in 13th place with a time of 1:48.57. 

In the final event of the day in the 400 yard medley relay, the team of Johnathon Lacayo, Isaac McCabe, Andrew Roberti and Mark Lukens finished in seventh place with a time of 3:39.32. Their teammates finished in 21st place with a time with a time of 3:49.84. That team consisted of Mitch DiFante, Michael Shoul, PJ Cronauer and Sage Sobek.

After day two through 18 events, the men still sit in sixth place with 341 points. Stevens remains in first with 716 points. 

Thursday Feb. 10
The Falcons did not find much success on Thursday night as the closest Falcon to a conference honor was PJ Cronauer. Cronauer just missed out on a Conference honor after finishing fourth in the 500 yard freestyle finishing with a time of 4:50.32. This was a second slower than his prelim time of 4:49.95.

In the same event Mason Kennedy finished eighth in the B race, with a time of 5:00.08.

Later in the 200 yard IM, Isaac McCabe finished seventh with a time of 2:01.15.

In the 50 yard freestyle, the highest placing Falcon was Mark Lukens who placed 12th overall, (4th in the B race). He finished with a time of 21.95. Jacob Whipple finished 21st overall with a time of 22.38.

Finally, the 200 yard medley relay team of Johnathon Lacayo, Isaac McCabe, Andrew Roberti and Mark Lukens finished in eighth place with a time of 1:40.09. Teammates Mitch DiFante, Michael Shoul, Ben Clarke and Jacob Whipple finished 21st with a time of 1:44.00.

Messiah sat in sixth place with 139 points through the first eight events.
