ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - On Friday night, the Messiah wrestling team earned a convincing 33-6 victory over the Elizabethtown Blue Jays in a dual. The Falcons won eight of the 10 bouts contested on the evening with Carter Urich (285 lbs.) and Joe Embleton (197 lbs.) capping off the Falcons' effort with first-period falls in the final two matches of the dual.

Messiah improves to 8-7 overall in duals this season and will wrap up the regular season tomorrow afternoon when they host the Lions from The College of New Jersey at 1:00 p.m. in Hitchcock Arena. Prior to the dual, Messiah will honor their senior class.

How It Happened
A tight battle at 125 lbs. was won by Elizabethtown's Ethan Liptzin thanks to a riding time point. The high-scoring, 11-10 decision went in favor of the Blue Jays as Elizabethtown took a 3-0 lead over the Falcons. Messiah responded with four straight victories, earning bonus points at 141 lbs. and 149 lbs. to take a 15-3 advantage heading to 165 lbs.

Dalton Daugherty got the Falcons started at 133 lbs. with a 6-2 decision over Elizabethtown's Scott Reagan to tie the team score at 3-3. Josiah Gehr earned a dominate technical fall at 141 lbs., needing just 3:44 to rack up a 20-1 victory and earn Messiah five team points. After another bonus point victory at 149 lbs. by Ike Bryner, Messiah held a 12-3 lead. Bryner took care of Shane Strausser to the tune of a 12-3 major decision. Garret Cornell held down the 157 lbs. weight class for the Falcons with a 5-1 decision over Gunner Gehr.

Elizabethtown got back on the board at 165 lbs. with an 8-3 decision to cut Messiah's team lead to nine at 15-6. Just as they did earlier, the Falcons overwhelmingly responded to the challenge, winning the next four bouts to run away with the dual.

John Sumner nearly earned a major decision at 174 lbs., clinching a 13-6 decision over Traisach Roland. At 184 lbs., Ryder Slayton kept the momentum rolling with an 11-5 decision before Messiah clinched consecutive first-period pins from Joe Embleton and Carter Urich to give the Falcons a 33-6 victory over the Blue Jays.

At 197 lbs. Joe Embleton earned a 2:04 fall against Jakob Latham while Carter Urich completed his pin of Quinn Hogue in 2:25.

Messiah will complete the 2022 regular season tomorrow afternoon with a dual against the TCNJ Lions at 1:00 p.m. in Hitchcock Arena.
