Women's Track & Field Has Strong Day One At MACs

READING, Pa. – The Messiah women's indoor track and field team competed in the 2022 MAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Flynn Plex in Reading, Pa., Friday afternoon. The Falcons earned a first-place finish in the 4000m DMR as a team of Kate Dickow, Cassidy Chandler, Olivia Cory, and Esther Seeland brought home the gold with a time of 12:34.38.
 
At the end of Day One, Messiah sits sixth overall in the standings with 15 team points. Misericordia is in first place with 56 points as Widener (39) and Lebanon Valley (28) sit in second and third place, respectively.
 
60m (Trials)
Ellie Longshaw had a strong showing in the 60m dash, earning a qualifying time for tomorrow's finals. Longshaw recorded a time of 8.13s, placing fifth out of 25 total runners. Emma Graybill just missed the qualifying mark, placing tenth overall with a time of 8.21s. Halle Jennett also competed in the event for the Falcons, placing fourth overall in the fourth heat with a time of 8.34s.
 
60m Hurdles (Trials)
Claire Miller etched her name on the finals qualifying list, placing sixth overall out of 20 total runners with a time of 9.77s. Miller ran in the third heat amongst strong competition, placing third overall. In the preliminaries, Messiah alumnus Kriten Bates had her MAC Indoor overall record of 8.81s broken by Stevens' Laura Mathews (8.79s).  
 
4000m DMR
The Falcons had a strong showing in the DMR, recording the sixth-fastest time in Messiah women's indoor track and field history. Messiah placed first out of 10 total teams with a time of 12:34.38 behind a team of Kate Dickow, Cassidy Chandler, Olivia Cory and Esther Seeland. The first-place finish earned Messiah 10 team points.
 
5000m
Ali Schutte, Teddi Powell, Katelyn Prothero, Sarah Bath, and Kirsten Howland all competed in the 5000m. Schutte led the way for Messiah, notching a tenth-place finish out of 26 runners with a time of 19:37.91. Powell earned a strong finish as well, placing 14th, crossing the line in 19:56.36. Prothero (19:59.22), Bath (20:25.15) and Howland (20:28.82) also registered impressive times in the event.
 
4x200m Relay
The Falcons had a team of Ellie Longshaw, Emma Graybill, Halle Jennett, and Elena Vargas compete in the 4x200m relay. The team issued a strong performance, placing fourth overall out of 15 teams with a time of 1:48.81. The relay team, with its strong performance, earned Messiah five team points.
 
Pole Vault
Cadee Wood and Noelle Crowley each represented the Falcons in the pole vault. Both vaulters competed well, as Wood registered a mark of 2.70m and Crowley a mark of 2.55m.
 
Weight Throw
Leah Ferster and Amanda Brown competed in the weight throw for Messiah. Ferster competed in the first flight, registering a final mark 10.34m. Brown competed in the second flight, ending with a top distance of 10.43m. Brown and Ferster finished 18th and 19th overall out of a strong field of 23 throwers.
