NEW YORK CITY, N. Y. – The Messiah women's track and field team competed in the NYC Armory DIII Invitational at the NYC Armory in New York City, N. Y., on Friday afternoon. The Falcons impressed while competing in a strong field of competition, highlighted by a quality performance in the 3000m from
Kate Dickow, issuing a second-place finish with a time of 10:37.90.
Overall, Messiah competed well as the team saw many individuals make improvements on previous marks.
60m Dash
Halle Jennett was the lone Falcon competing in the 60m dash. The first-year sprinter was unable to advance to the finals, but still turned in a great performance, registering a time of 8.42s. Jennett finished 14th overall out of 26 total sprinters.
60m Hurdles
Claire Miller recorded a strong outing in the preliminary heat, crossing the line in 9.92s, qualifying the finals. In the finals, Miller finished with a time of 9.95s, finishing sixth out of nine sprinters. The sophomore sprinter improved upon her top mark (9.98s) from last week's 60m hurdles competition.
200m
Jennett and Miller were the only Messiah representatives out of a field of 39 total sprinters. Finishing 14th overall with a mark of 28.08s, Jennett represented the Falcons well. Jennett made improvements on her 200m time as last week's performance (28.17s) was edged by just 0.09s. Miller turned in a quality time as well, finishing the race in 28.39s, placing 19th overall.
400m
Cassidy Chandler represented Messiah in the 400m event. Chandler performed well, crossing the line in 1:03.79, placing 13th overall out of a strong field of 27 competitors. The junior sprinter improved upon her 400m time from last week when she completed the event in 1:04.41 at the Mini-Dip Invitational in Lancaster, Pa.
800m
The Falcons were well-represented in the 800m.
Kathleen Walstrom,
Olivia Cory, and
Brieanna Hess all competed for Messiah in a field of 37 runners. Walstrom earned a 10th-place finish overall, finishing the race in 2:26.60. Cory (2:28.06) and Hess (2:28.07) finished twelfth and thirteenth, respectively. Walstrom (2:34.18) and Hess (2:41.35) each made considerable improvements on their 800m marks from last week.
1-Mile
Amber Fogelsanger,
Sarah Smith,
Hannah Steckbeck, and
Laura Tan all competed in a competitive 1-mile event. Fogelsanger paced the Falcons, finishing the event in 5:51.05, while Smith (5:53.88), Steckbeck (5:56.13) and Tan (6:06.61) all registered quality performances as well.
3000m
Dickow led the way for the Falcons in the long-distance event, impressively placing second overall out of a field of 16 runners. Dickow finished the event in just 10:37.90 as Muhlenberg's Abby Dalton (10:16.64) paced the field. Katelyn Prothero (11:09.77),
Kirsten Howland (11:45.25) and
Sarah Bath (11:58.62) all competed well for Messiah.
4x400m Relay
The Falcons had a team of Chandler, Hess, Cory, and Walstrom compete in the 4x400m relay. Messiah competed in a strong field of 13 teams, placing eighth overall with a time of 4:24.61. The Falcon relay team competed well, making a positive improvement from last week's 4x400 relay time (4:28.61).
Weight Throw
Amanda Brown represented Messiah in the weight throw, achieving a mark of 11.28m. Brown placed seventh overall out of 16 throwers.
Triple Jump
Olivia Call competed in the triple jump, recording an impressive mark of 9.48m. Call achieved her top mark on the third try as New Jersey City's Polina Agutina earned the top overall mark with a distance of 10.73m.
High Jump
Emily Gourley competed for Messiah in the high jump, leaping to a mark of 1.45m. Gourley competed in a field of nine jumpers, falling just short of last week's top mark (1.50m).
What's Next
Messiah travels to Susquehanna University next Saturday, Feb. 12, competing at a time to be determined.
