YORK, Pa. – Friday night's dual against the York Spartans went down to the wire with the Messiah wrestling team prevailing by a final score of 22-18.
Carter Urich earned a major decision to clinch the match for the Falcons. Messiah trailed early in the dual, but battled back to claim the victory.
With the victory, moves Messiah to 7-7 in duals this season. The Falcons will be back in action tomorrow morning for the Messiah Open in Hitchcock Arena. The action is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. with Messiah's Blue Team slated to be in action.
How It Happened
The York Spartans jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead with Jared Kuhns earning a fall at 125 lbs. and Dalton Rohrbaugh picking up a major decision at 133 lbs. The Falcons responsed with a pair of major decsions from
Josiah Gehr at 141 lbs. and
Ike Bryner at 149 lbs. Gehr earned a commanding 18-2 major decision over Tyson McDuffy while Bryner earned a 13-3 major over Sammy Mazzella.
The two victories, brought the Falcons within two points at 10-8 as the dual headed to 157 lbs.
York earned a slim 6-4 decision at 157 lbs. to bump their lead to 13-8.
The Falcons claimed the next three bouts with
Zach Needles earning an 18-4 major decision at 165 lbs. Needles' victory came from York's Timmy Sparks. Back-to-back decisions at 174 and 184 lbs. for the Falcons gave Messiah a 18-14 lead. Those two decisions came in extremely different ways with
John Sumner earned a 14-9 decision over Kyle Strazdus at 174 lbs. while
Ryder Slayton claimed a 2-0 decision over Jake Hipps at 184 lbs.
Camden Farrow earned a 16-1 technical fall at 197 lbs. to tie the dual at 18-18, heading to the final bout of the night at 285 lbs.
Carter Urich came up big for the Falcons, as he has all season, earning a 16-6 major decision over York's Brock Hofler to give Messiah the 22-18 victory.

Messiah will have a quick turnaround as they host the Messiah Open on Saturday morning in Hitchcock Arena at 10:00 a.m. The Messiah Blue Team will be in action for the Falcons.
