Josiah Gehr went 1-1 on Saturday to cap off the 2021-22 season for the Messiah wrestling program, earning a seventh-place finish at 141 lbs. and All-American honors. Gehr lost a 5-1 decision against
Jacob Reed (Ohio Northern) in the consolation bracket to start his day on Saturday, but ended his year on a high note with a 7-2 decision over James Rodriguez (Castleton) in the seventh-place match.
Gehr earned 5.5 team points over the course of the weekend and tied the Falcons for 41st place in the team standings on the weekend.
With his All-American finish, Gehr becomes the 49th All-American in Messiah wrestling history.

Seventh Place Match - Josiah Gehr (Messiah) won by decision (7-2) over James Rodriguez (Castleton)
Gehr started his day by dropping a 5-1 decision against Jacob Reed from Ohio Northern. Reed earned a first-period takedown and a third-period reversal and despte a late escape from Gehr, he moved into in the seventh-place match.
Once in the seventh-place match, Gehr tok care of Castleton's James Rodriguez to the tune of a 7-2 decision. Gehr earned the first points of the match late in the first period with a takedown to take a 2-0 lead. After choosing bottom, Gehr escaped and claimed a takedown to build a 5-0 lead. After Rodriguez escaped, at the end of the second period, Gehr held a 5-1 lead. Another takedown midway through the third helped push Gehr to the 7-2 decision and the seventh-place finish and the All-American honor.
The All-American honor is the first of the career for Gehr and the 49th all-time honor in Messiah wrestling history.
Team Standings
With the 5.5 team points that Gehr earned for the Falcons, Messiah finished in a tie for 41st place among the 70 teams with a represetative in Cedar Rapids this weekend.
