CHESTER, Pa. – The Messiah women's track and field team competed in the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener University on Saturday, turning in several notable individual performances.
Esther Seeland highlighted the afternoon, breaking a Messiah women's track and field program record in the outdoor 1500m with a time of 4:27.30. Other notable performances included
Claire Miller in the 100m hurdles (16.52s) and
Olivia Cory in the 800m (2:27.18).
Saturday's Events:
1500m
Seeland topped all competition in the 1500m event, earning a record-breaking time of 4:27.30. The senior runner won the event by over 20 seconds as Widener's Carly Gable placed second with a time of 4:47.48.
100m Hurdles
Claire Miller represented the Falcons in the 110m hurdles event, registering a fourth-place finish out of 20 total finishers. Miller recorded a time of 16.52s.
400m
Megan Raab earned the top team finish for Messiah in the 400m event, recording a time of 1:07.13. Raab registered a 24th-place finish overall.
100m
Halle Jennett was the lone Falcon finisher in the 100m dash. Jennett turned in an impressive performance, placing 19th overall out of 38 total sprinters. Jennett recorded a time of 13.36s as Rowan's Molly Lodge topped all competition with a time of 12.43s.
800m
Messiah was well-represented in the 800m.
Olivia Cory highlighted the team's effort, earning an eighth-place finish, crossing the line in 2:27.18.
Amber Fogelsanger (2:29.73) and
Emma Johnsen (2:30.00) also turned in quality performances, placing 17th and 18th overall, respectively.
Also recording impressive performances for Messiah were Lindsay Bernd (2:30.38),
Laura Kruth (2:33.56),
Isabela Rodriguez (2:35.04),
Sarah Smith (2:35.24),
Kiersten Burch (2:38.05),
Regina Pirolli (2:38.40),
Meghan Sampson (2:46.22), and Coleen Quinn (2:46.57).
400m Hurdles
Three Falcons competed in the 400m hurdles as Miller turned in a team-best performance, placing 13th overall with a time of 1:14.57.
Julia Rickard and
Maria Sudlow also competed in the event as well, earning respective times of 1:16.47 and 1:19.37.
200m
Emma Graybill recorded a strong finish in the 200m dash, placing 13th overall out of a field of 56 runners. Graybill crossed the line in 27.26s.
Jennett (27.86s) and Raab (29.67s) also turned in strong performances in the event.
Hammer Throw
Amanda Brown represented Messiah well in the hammer throw, registering an impressive seventh-place finish with a mark of 35.34m. Within the field of 23 total throwers,
Leah Ferster and
Lila Goodhile each competed in the event as well, earning respective marks of 29.05m and 24.76m.
Pole Vault
Four Falcons competed in the pole vault as
Cadee Wood recorded an impressive fifth-place finish, vaulting to a mark of 2.60m.
Noelle Crowley (2.45m) and
Hannah Witter (2.45m) earned eighth- and ninth-place finishes, respectively, as
Olivia Call achieved a mark of 2.45m as well.
High Jump
Both
Emily Gourley and
Olivia Call turned in strong performances in the high jump. The event had a field of 21 total jumpers as Gourley recorded an impressive eighth-place finish with a mark of 1.40m as Call came in 15th overall, leaping to a top height of 1.35m.
Friday's Events:
5000m
The two-heat 5000m event was a strong event for Messiah. As mentioned, the Falcons registered three top-ten finishes out of a field of 36 total finishers, highlighted by Dickow's second-best time of 18:08.49.
Ali Schutte (19:11.65) and
Chloe Wester (19:13.67) finished seventh and eighth overall, respectively.
In addition to three top-ten finishers, Messiah had several strong performances in the event. Representing the Falcons were
Teddi Powell (19:51.94), Katelyn Prothero (19:53.36),
Sarah Bath (19:55.08),
Amber Swaisgood (20:01.23),
Hannah Steckbeck (20:42.50),
Kirsten Howland (20:49.15),
Jillian Brotherton (21:17.58), and
Elise Davenport (21:36.62).
Discus Throw
Brown issued a strong performance in the discus throw, registering an impressive fourth-place finish out a 22-competitor field. Brown achieved a top mark of 33.04m as
Leah Ferster also represented the Falcons, earning a mark of 21.33m.
Shot Put
Ferster competed in her second throwing event of the afternoon in the shot put. Ferster turned in a top-ten performance, placing ninth overall out of a competitive field of 32 throwers with a mark of 10.21m.
Lila Goodhile competed in the shot put as well, placing 20th overall with a mark of 9.23m.
