MANHEIM, Pa. - Late last week, the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced their 2022 NWCA Division III Scholar All-America Awards. Among the honorees were a pair of Messiah Falcons with
Asa Brunk (141 lbs.) and
Jake Coniglio (149 lbs.) earning distinctions. In total, there were 325 individuals honored on the Scholar All-America Team with those individuals coming from 87 different institutions.
In addition to the individual honors handed out by the NWCA, the association also honored teams with the highest grade point averages. The Messiah wrestling team earned a spot in the top-30 with a team GPA of 3.492, finishing in 27th place nationally. Augsburg University held the top GPA of any team in country, finishing with a mark of 3.879.
The Falcons finished the 2021-22 season with an 8-8 record in duals this season and finished as the runner-up at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships, held in Grantham on Jan. 15. Messiah qualified two wrestlers to the National Championships with
Josiah Gehr and
Nick Barnhart earning spots and as a team, the Falcons concluded their campaign in a tie for 41st place at Nationals.
