Seeland Impresses At Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Esther Seeland represented the Messiah women's track and field team on Thursday evening, competing in the 1500m event at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. Seeland turned in an impressive performance within a field of NCAA DI runners, placing fourth overall with a time of 4:18.28. The senior runner's time was best of the second heat, edging UConn's Mia Nahom (4:18.97).
 
Seeland's time is the fastest 1500m time in NCAA DIII this season and the sixth-fastest all-time in DIII history. In addition, Seeland broke her own program record from last season by over nine seconds (4:27.30).
 
Seeland competed in the second heat of the event, proving to be the only NCAA DIII runner in the field. Amongst 10 runners, Seeland topped all competition with an impressive showing.
 
The Falcons continue competition at the Penn Relays tomorrow afternoon as Brendan Provan (men's track and field) will compete in the triple jump while the women's 4x400m relay team will compete in a 11-team field at 6:25 p.m. The men's team will also field a 4x400m relay team, competing at 6:50 p.m.
