Falcons Impress At Paul Kaiser Invitational

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Messiah women's track and field team competed at the Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg University on Saturday. The Falcons competed well, highlighted by a second-place finish in the 3000m event from Kate Dickow (10:43.17).

In addition to today's competition, several Falcons competed in the Penn Relays yesterday (Apr. 29) in Philadelphia, Pa. Messiah fielded a 4x400m relay team consisting of Leanne Weaver, Ellie Longshaw, Emma Graybill, and Esther Seeland. The Falcons recorded an impressive third-place finish, crossing the line in 4:01.05.

Notable Performers

The Falcons had several standout performances from today's competition. Longshaw, just a day after competing in the Penn Relays, ran in the 200m. The senior sprinter recorded an eighth-place finish in a field of 67 runners with a time of 26.19s. Elena Vargas recorded a top-10 finish in the 400m, placing sixth out of 38, crossing the line in 1:00.07.

Dickow issued an impressive performance in the 3000m event. Dickow placed second overall with a time of 10:34.17, competing in a competitive field of 28 runners. Chloe Wester also competed well in the event, earning a 10th-place finish with a time of 11:06.69.

Weaver ran in the 400m hurdles, turning in a quality performance with a time of 1:08.39. Weaver's performance earned her a seventh-place finish as Brieanna Hess (1:11.19), Julia Rickard (1:15.84), and Maria Sudlow (1:24.55) all competed well in the event as well.

The Falcons fielded a 4x400m relay team as Lindsey Bernd, Olivia Cory, Laura Kruth, and Emma Johnsen led Messiah to a fifth-place finish. The relay team competed in a field of 10 teams as Shippensburg (3:54.48) topped all competition.

Several Falcons performed well in the field events. Emily Gourley (1.41m), Olivia Call (1.36m), and Natalie Hamlen (1.31m) represented Messiah in the high jump as Noelle Crowley (2.78m), Hannah Witter (2.63m), Cadee Wood (2.63m), and Olivia Call (2.63m) all competed in the pole vault. Vargas turned in a quality performance in the long jump, registering a mark of 4.65m, while achieving a mark of 10.68m in the triple jump.

In the throw events, Leah Ferster earned a mark of 10.08m in the shot put as Sudlow (7.57m) and Hamlen (8.04m) also competed in the event as well. Amanda Brown performed well in the discus, registering a mark of 30.56m. Brynn Gaugler placed 10th overall in the javelin throw, recording an impressive mark of 32.87m. Bernd (29.98m), Macey Wolfe (30.52m), and Lila Goohile (30.41m) represented the Falcons in the event as well.

What's Next
Messiah travels to DeSales University this Thursday, May 5, to compete in the 2022 MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Falcons will seek its fifth-consecutive outdoor track and field conference championship at the three-day event (May 5-7).
