Falcons Earn Plenty Of Medals In Day Three Of MACs

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Messiah women's track and field team competed in Day Three of the 2022 MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at DeSales University. Overall, the Falcons had a successful day, earning a fifth-place team finish with 91 team points and many medal-winning performances.

Esther Seeland was named the Women's MAC Track Athlete of Year after earning three gold medals in the 1500 Meter, 800 Meter, and 400 Meter.

Medal-Winners
Esther Seeland impressed in today's competitions, earning three Gold medals and being named the MAC Track Athlete of the Year. Seeland's first Gold came in the 1500m event when the senior runner topped all competition with a winning time of 4:48.28. Kate Dickow also ran in the event, placing seventh overall with a time of 5:02.58. Seeland earned her second Gold of the day in the 800m, placing first with a time of 2:12.80. In the 400m event, Seeland placed first once again, registering a winning time of 58.99s. Elena Vargas (1:00.18) and Emma Graybill (1:03.18) also recorded quality finishes in the event.
 
Leanne Weaver captured a Bronze medal in the 400m hurdles event. Weaver, crossing the line in 1:07.71, competed in a competitive field of eight runners as Misericordia's Sonialys Badillo (1:05.37) topped all competition.
 
Messiah's 4x100m relay team snagged a Bronze medal with an impressive performance. The Falcons, with a team of Claire Miller, Graybill, Halle Jennett, and Ellie Longshaw, placed third overall, crossing the line in 50.09s. The Falcons' 4x400m team also earned a Bronze medal as Longshaw, Graybill, Vargas, and Seeland registered a time of 4:08.43.
 
Notable Performances
Miller represented the Falcons in the 100m hurdles placing fifth overall with a time of 17.43s. Stevens' Laura Mathews topped all competition, coming in at 14.99s.
 
Plenty of Falcons competed in the 5000m event. Dickow earned a team-best finish, placing 13th overall with a time of 19:13.66. Following Dickow were Ali Schutte (19:32.90), Chloe Wester (19:33.83), Teddi Powell (19:42.32), Katelyn Prothero (19:44.93), Amber Swaisgood (20:02.38), and Sarah Bath (20:25.68).  
 
Leah Ferester and Lila Goodhile each represented Messiah in the shot put. Both Falcons competed well as Ferster earned a mark of 10.35m and Goodhile achieved a distance of 9.00m. Cadee Woods placed eighth overall in the pole vault, vaulting to a mark of 2.80m. Noelle Crowley (2.65m), Hannah Witter (2.65m), and Olivia Call (2.65m) all competed in the pole vault as well. Ruby Ramsey and Macey Wolfe were impressive in the javelin throw as each Falcon recorded top-ten marks. Ramsey achieved a mark of 29.62m, placing seventh overall, as Wolfe placed ninth overall with a mark of 27.86m. Vargas competed in the triple jump, earning a seventh-place finish, achieving a mark of 10.68m.
 
Overall, the Falcons competed well, earning an impressive team finish.
