HOUGHTON, N.Y. - The Messiah men's track and field team returned to competition on Saturday with a trip to Houghton, N.Y. for the Houghton Highlander Invitational. Highlighting the day for the Falcons was a victory in the 4x400 Meter Relay as well as
Landon Kerr winning the Triple Jump. Overall there were a number of quality performances for the Falcons as the winter season rolls along.
Messiah will be back in action on Friday and Saturday at the Bison Open and Multi, hosted by Bucknell Univeristy.
On the Track
Messiah performed well in the distance events, placing five in the top ten of the 3,000 Meter and four in the top ten of the 5,000 Meter.
Louka Fetter led the way in the 3,000 Meter, finishing in second place with a time of 8:47.59. In addition to Fetter's second-place finish, Messiah earned three consecutive finishers in fourth, fifth, and sixth place.
Noah Calisti led the trio in 8:59.57, taking fourth. He was followed closely by
Josiah Moyer (9:00.12) and
Andrew Hutchinson (9:07.95).
Josh Bauman rounded out the Falcons' top ten finishes with a time of 9:12.62, earning seventh place.
Jonathan Wyrick and
Zeke Colyer earned second and third place respectively in the 5,000 Meter. Wyrick earned second place in 16:37.33, while Colyer crossed the line in 16:43.91, taking third. Additionally,
Tyler Billet (fifth, 17:03.66) and
Sam Rasinske (eighth, 18:06.24) also earned top-ten finishes for Messiah.
Zach Mayro finished fifth in the 60 Meter with a time of 7.25, just two thousandths of a second out of fourth place.
Derek Heisey earned a ninth-place finish in the 200 Meter after crossing in 24.14.
Three Falcons earned top-ten spots in the 800 Meter, highlighted by
John Condon's second-place finish. Condon crossed the line in a time of 2:02.61. Adam Hostletler (2:06.11) edged out teammate
Nathan Kopp (2:06.23) in a battle between sixth and seventh.
The Falcons finished their day with two teams in the 4x400 Meter Relay. The teams finished in first and seventh. The first-place team of
Derek Heisey,
Nathan Kopp,
John Condon, and
Josiah Zehr crossed the line in 3:38.87.
In the Field
Liam McGovern represented the Falcons in the throws with an 11.89 meter throw in the Shot Put, finishing in seventh place.
The Falcons were well represented across the jumping events as well.
Landon Kerr had a great day, earning a first-place finish in the Triple Jump and taking home sixth in the High Jump. Kerr's victory in the Triple Jump came from jump of 12.33 meters while his strong finishin the High Jump was the result of a 1.71 meter clearance.
John Steele finished third in the Triple Jump with a mark of 11.58 meters. Steele also competed in the 60 Meter Hurdles finishing fourth in a time of 9.56.
Joining Kerr in the High Jump was
Derek Heisey, who finished second with a height of 1.86 meters.
Zach French competed in the Long Jump and finished in fourth after a jump of 6.37 meters.
Rounding out the jumping events for the day was pole vault.
Josiah Zehr tied the top height of the day at 4.10 meters but finished in third place after attempts. Teammate Colbie-Stephen Mason finished right behind in fourth after a height of 3.95 meters.

The Falcons are back in action next Friday and Saturday when they travel to Bucknell University for the Bison Open and Multi.
