COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Messiah wrestling team pinned their way to a 36-16 victory over the Rhode Island College Anchormen to begin their day at the Manganaro Duals hosted by the Ursinus Bears. Messiah also earned a 36-12 victory over the New England College Pilgrims, picking up four falls in that match as well. The Falcons dropped duals against Southern Maine (24-23) and Ursinus (27-13) to round out their Saturday.

Messiah will be back in action next weekend when they travel to the Budd Whitehill Duals on Jan. 13 and 14. The action begins in Williamsport, Pa. on Friday at 9:00 a.m.

Messiah defeats Rhode Island College – 36-16
The Falcons started their day with a pin-fest against the Rhode Island Anchormen. Messiah picked up six wins in their dual with Rhode Island en route to a 36-16 victory.
Asa Brunk earned a fall in 5:12 at 133 lbs. to start a stretch of four-straight pins for the Falcons.
Mason Casey was next at 141 lbs. with a third-period fall in 5:25.

Camerin Deville (149 lbs.) and
Garret Cornell (157 lbs.) earned first-period falls in 2:19 and 2:17, respectively. The four-straight falls gave Messiah a 24-3 lead after five bouts. The Shoremen earned a major decision and a decision in the next two bouts before
Ryder Slayton and
Joe Embleton picked up falls at 184 and 197 lbs. Slayton pinned his opponent in 3:55 while Embleton got his fall in 3:42.

Southern Maine defeats Messiah – 24-23Â
For the second-straight day, Messiah dropped a dual by way of criteria. On Saturday, Messiah fell 24-23 against Southern Maine after the Huskies outscored them 42-41 in match points. The Falcons earned a major decision from
Asa Brunk at 133 lbs. before claiming four-straight victories from
Garret Cornell (fall, 157 lbs.),
Zach Needles (decision, 165 lbs.),
John Sumner (fall, 174 lbs.), and
Ryder Slayton (maj. dec., 184 lbs.). With the Falcons leading 23-14 with two bouts remaining, the Huskies claimed a tight decision at 197 lbs. before earning a fall at 285 lbs. to tie the match.

In criteria, both Messiah and Southern Main won five bouts and picked up a pair of falls. In the other six matches, Messiah was outscored 42-41 and as a result, the Huskies were awarded a team point and the 24-23 victory.
Messiah defeats New England College - 36-12
The Falcons put on a dominating show against the New England College Pilgrims in their third match of the day. Messiah won seven of the 10 bouts in the dual, including seven of the first eight match-ups.
Bryce Arnold started the dual with a tight, 5-4 victory over Patrick Hughes at 125 lbs.
Asa Brunk bumped Messiah's lead up to 9-0 with an overtime fall at 133 lbs.

After the Pilgrims earned a fall at 141 lbs. to get on the board, but a stretch of five-straight wins for Messiah started with a pin by
Clay Gainer at 149 lbs. Jared Bulter also earned a fall at 157 lbs. before
Zach Needles earned a 20-2 tech fall at 165 lbs.

John Sumner earned an 8-0, shutout major decision at 174 lbs. and
Ryder Slayton picked up Messiah's fourth fall of the dual at 184 lbs. to give Messiah a 36-6 lead with two bouts remaining. The Pilgrims earned decisions at both 197 and 285 lbs., but Messiah earned the 36-12 victory in the dual.
Ursinus defeats Messiah – 27-13
In their final dual of the day, Messiah was defeated by the host Ursinus Bears by a final score 27-13. The Falcons earned three victories in the dual with
Asa Brunk winning an 8-7 decision at 133 lbs.,
Garret Cornell picking up his second fall of the day at 157 lbs. in 2:17, and
John Sumner claiming a 15-8 major decision at 174 lbs.
