FREDERICK, Md. – The Messiah University women's swim team dominated to a double-dual sweep over Hood College and Widener University on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons defeated Widener University 165-95 and defeated Hood, 211-44. The Falcons dominated the relays with wins in both the 400-medley relay and the 200-free relay. The Falcons totaled 17 top-three racers with nine first-place finishes.
Up next, the Falcons travel to Glenside, Pa. to take on the Knights of Arcadia University on Friday, Nov. 3 at 6:00 p.m.
How It Happened
The Falcons opened the meet strong with a first and second place finish in the 400-medley relay. The team of
Grace Schad,
Evangeline Soerens,
Caitlin Ross, and
Abigail Soerens touched the wall first with a time of 4:08.56.
Maddy Price,
Lauren Cotton,
Lexi Lovern, and
Lauren Mock finished second with a time of 4:23.47.
To start the individual races
Marie Hagemaster finished second in the 1000 free with a time of 11:42.03. Hagemaster also finished second in the 100 free with a time of 57.15.
The Falcons continued to race well in the 200 free.
Grace Schad finished first with a time of 2:04.92 and
Kendal Wilson came in third with a time of 2:07.55. Schad also added a second-place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:20.10.
The Falcons added another gold medal with
Maddy Price touching the wall first in the 100 back with a time of 1:04.56. Price continued to dominate in the backstroke events with a 200-back win later in the meet. Price finished that event with a time of 2:19.56.
Messiah continued to have a strong day in the pool with the 100 breast.
Abigail Soerens finished first with a time of 1:09.83 and
Lexi Lovern finished second with a time of 1:13.52. Soerens had a strong day in the pool with another win in the 50 free with a time of 25.87.
Erin Goudie had an impressive day in the pool with two butterfly event wins. Goudie touched the wall in the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.46 and finished in the 200 fly with a time of 2:16.94.
Another Messiah swimmer with a solid day in the pool was
Evangeline Soerens. Soerens finished first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:28.82. She also added a third-place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:24.74.
Samantha Pennell touched the wall first in the 500 free with a time 5:33.82.
Lauren Mock added a third-place finish in the 50 free with a time of 27.10.
The Falcons added one more third-place finish in the 100 free.
Caitlin Ross earned the bronze with a time of 58.02.
The Falcons finished the meet with a first and third-place finish in the 200 free relay. The team of
