No. 1 Men’s Soccer Earns Three Major Awards, Nine Named to All-Conference Teams

ANNVILLE, Pa. – On Friday morning, the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth released their 2023 men's Soccer All-MAC Commonwealth Major Awards and All-Conference teams. Ben Vollmer earned the MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year and Sam Phillips was named MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year. Brad McCarty received MAC Commonwealth Coach of the Year honors. The Falcons had nine players selected to the All-MAC Commonwealth teams.
 
With Defensive Player of the Year Ben Vollmer, Matt McDonald, Ben Lefever, Patrick Lee, Jarec Morlote, and Jake Lent-Koop were named to the first team. Along with Rookie of the Year Sam Phillips, Josh Bratager, and Adam Carter received second-team honors.
 
Ben Vollmer earned Defensive Player of the Year after leading the Falcons back line during the 2023 season. Vollmer started all 20 games for the Falcons and tallied an assist on the season. Vollmer helped the Falcons allow only six goals all season and 15 shutouts.
 
Sam Phillips has had an impressive freshman campaign for the Falcons as the 2023 MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year. Phillips finished second on the Falcons with 25 points on the season with 11 goals and three assists. Phillips also recorded four game-winning goals on the season and has recorded a point in five of the last seven games for the Falcons.
 
The 2022 MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Year, Matt McDonald has another impressive year in 2023. McDonald finished the season with a team-high 27 points on 12 goals and three assists. McDonald came up clutch for the Falcons with eight game-winning goals on the season. McDonald also scored in all seven conference games and has tallied a goal in nine of the Falcons last 11 games.
 
Ben Lefever also received a first-team selection as one of the top forwards for the Falcons. Lefever has 14 points on the season with four goals and six assists.
 
The Falcons had an impressive midfield group with two players being selected to the first team. Patrick Lee finished the season with 10 points on 2 goals and 6 assists and Jarec Morlote finished with five points on a goal and three assists. Both players were crucial in the Falcons control of possession that helped the Falcons only allow six goals all season.
 
With MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year, Ben Vollmer, Jake Lent-Koop earned a spot on the first team. The 2022 Defensive Player of the Year, Lent-Koop continued to a force on the Falcons back line. With Lent-Koop in the lineup, the Falcons have only allowed three goals in 11 games.
 
Josh Bratager earned a spot on the second team after an impressive year in the Falcons midfield. Bratager finished with 11 points on five goals and one assist on the season.
 
Goalkeeper Adam Carter was selected to the second team after a great year in goal for the Falcons. Carter finished the season with a 0.27 goals-against average, 24 saves, .828 save percentage, and 10 shutouts. Carter started in every game for the Falcons and made it difficult for teams to score with timely saves.
 
Brad McCarty was named Coach of the Year after leading the Falcons to a perfect 7-0 record in MAC Commonwealth play. Along with McCarty, the coaching staff of Aaron Faro, Justin Johnson, Benji Kennel, Elijah Steffen, and Trevor Goodling led the Falcons to a 19-0-1 record. It is the eighth time that McCarty has earned MAC Commonwealth Coach of the Year honors.
