KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Earlier this week, the United Soccer Coaches announced their All-Region teams for the 2023 men's and women's soccer seasons. Among the honorees where nine Falcons between the men's and women's programs. On the men's side, the Falcons earned five accolades with
Ben Vollmer,
Jarec Morlote,
Matt McDonald,
Adam Carter, and
Ben Lefever earning laurels. On the women's side, Messiah saw four earn regional nods, including
Jenna Skurcenski,
Kristina Akselsen,
Thea Neimond, and
Tahlia Lloyd.
In Region V, First Team honors went to
Ben Vollmer,
Jarec Morlote,
Matt McDonald,
Jenna Skurcenski, and
Kristina Akselsen while
Adam Carter and
Thea Neimond earned Second Team accolades.
Ben Lefever and
Tahlia Lloyd earned spots on the Third Team.
For the women, all four of their honorees claimed All-Conference honors with
Jenna Skurcenski leading the way with both a First Team nod as well as Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors. Both Skurcenski and Akselsen earn their second All-Region honors after being named First Team All-Americans a season ago. For Neimond and Lloyd their All-Region distinctions are the first of their careers.
For the men, their five honors this season ties a program record for most individuals recognized on the All-Region teams in a single season. Previously, the Falcons had five individuals recognized in 2005, 2012, 2014, and 2021). For
Matt McDonald, this year's honor is his third-straight First Team All-Region honor. A year ago, he was additionally named a First Team All-American and the National Player of the Year. For Vollmer, Morlote, Carter, and Lefever their All-Regional nods are the first regional honors of their career. All four were named All-Conference this season with Vollmer also being named the MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year.
