KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On Friday morning, the United Soccer Coaches announced the Scholar All-Americans for the 2023 season. Among the student-athletes announced were a pair of Messiah men's soccer players with
Ben Vollmer and
Jarec Morlote picking up honors. Vollmer earned a spot on the First Team just weeks after claiming his first career All-American nod while Morlote was named a Third Team Scholar All-American.
Ben Vollmer adds a First Team Academic All-American honor to a growing list of accomplishments from the 2023 season. Previously he was named the MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year this season, First Team All-Region, and Second Team All-American. The senior started all 22 games on a defensive unit that allowed just seven goals on the year. Messiah's 0.326 goals against average was the second lowest in the country with Vollmer and company playing a big part in that effort. Opposing offenses attempted just 100 shots on the season, averaging just 4.5 attempts per game. In the classroom, Vollmer holds a 3.50 cumulative GPA while pursuing a degree in Psychology.
Jarec Morlote earns his first career Academic All-American honor from the United Soccer Coaches after being named First Team All-Region. A consistent presence in the midfield and aiding the Falcons defensive unit, Mortlote started all 22 games for the Falcons finding the back of the net once and adding four assists. Morlote scored his goal in the last game of the regular season for his first career tally. Academically, Morlote holds a 3.70 cumulative GPA as an Economics major.
Additionally, the Falcons earned four Scholar All-Region honors from the United Soccer Coaches. Both
Ben Vollmer and
Jarec Morlote were celebrated as First Team Scholar All-Region while
Adam Carter was named Second Team and
Ben Lefever claimed Third Team honors.
Adam Carter is an English major with a 3.81 cumulative GPA while
Ben Lefever is a fifth year accounting major with a 3.73 cumulative GPA.
