WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Messiah wrestling team squared off in a pair of duals on Saturday evening, taking on the Marymount Saints and the No. 12 McDaniel Green Terror. The Falcons split their day in Westminster, Md. with a resounding 39-12 victory over the Saints and a 21-19 setback against the Green Terror.
The Falcons will be back in action next weekend when they host the Chocolate Duals on Saturday, Dec. 16 in Hitchcock Arena beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Messiah defeats Marymount – 39-12
Against the Saints, Messiah earned three falls with
Asa Brunk (141 lbs.),
Dalton Monger (149 lbs.), and
Sawyer Dereszynski (197 lbs.) all earning pins to help the Falcons to victory. The Saints opened the dual with a fall at 125 lbs., but the Falcons responded with eight-straight victories to build a commanding 39-6 lead. Marymount ended the dual with a fall at 285 lbs. to bookend the dual with pins. In between the two pins for the Saints, Messiah dominated the dual with three pins, three technical falls, and a pair of decisions to roll the Saints.
In addition to the three falls from Brunk, Monger, and Dereszynski, the Falcons earned technical falls from
Caiden Heller (133 lbs.),
Clay Gainer (157 lbs.), and
Zach Needles (165 lbs.). Heller picked up a 20-2 victory while Gainer claimed a 17-0 win. Needles followed up Gainer's technical fall with a high-scoring 27-10 victory in just 4:41. Christopher Crastley (174 lbs.) and
Ryder Slayton (184 lbs.) also earned decisions in back-to-back bouts by scores of 15-6 and 5-0.

McDaniel defeats Messiah – 21-19
In the nightcap, the Falcons trailed McDaniel 16-3 at the midpoint of the dual.
Tyler Ratledge started things off the for Falcons with an exciting 19-13 decision at 125 lbs., but the Green Terror won the next four bouts to build their 13-point lead. Messiah responded by winning three-straight bouts with a major decision from
Zach Needles (165 lbs.), a pin from
Austin Brass (174 lbs.), and a decision from
Ryder Slayton (184 lbs.). With the three victories, including two bonus-point wins, Messiah tied the dual at 16-16.
Despite the comeback, the Green Terror earned a technical fall at 197 lbs. to build a five-point lead at 21-16. Needing a pin for the team win,
Hayden Benner did his best at 285 lbs., but could not earn the fall, finishing with a 4-1 decision to wrap up the dual. Benner claimed a takedown late in the third period, but despite his best efforts for a turn was unable to get McDaniel's Kaden Bryan to his back.
