Five Event Victories with a Pair for Zehr Highlight Rainy Saturday

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.- The Messiah Track and Field team competed at the Ursinus College Outdoor Invitational on a rainy Saturday. The Falcons efforts were highlighted by a pair of victories for Josiah Zehr and three additional first-place finishes on the day. There were a number of Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championship qualifying performances collected on Saturday.
 
The Falcons will return to action in Chester, Pa when they travel to Widener University for the Danny Curran Invitational on Friday, Mar. 31, and Saturday, Apr. 1.
 
First-Place Finishes
Josiah Zehr earned himself a pair of victories Saturday afternoon in the Pole Vault and in the 400 Meter Hurdles. Zehr's final clearance of 4.10 meters in the Pole Vault bettered the second-place finisher by nearly a foot. He crossed the finish line in the hurdles in a time of 59.71. Both performances reached the MAC qualifying standards.
 
The Falcons earned first-place finishes in the High Jump, Javelin and 5000 Meter Run. Derek Heisey cleared a height of 1.70 meters to earn the top spot in the High Jump. Matthew Puleo hit a mark of 50.42 meters in the Javelin to claim the victory. A final time of 14:52.73 earned Louka Fetter the top finish in the 5000 Meter Run.
 
On the Track
In addition to Fetter's victory in the 5000 Meter, three additional Falcons earned top-ten finishes in the event. Kyle Costello (third, 15:20.49), Noah Calisti (fourth, 15:34.49), and Josh Bauman (seventh, 15:42.66) all ran well. Each of the four times reached the MAC qualifying standard.
 
John Steele (fourth, 16.95) and Liam McGovern (fifth, 19.00) ran well in the 110 Meter Hurdles.
 
Messiah added a second pair of fourth and fifth place finishes in the 3000 Meter Steeple Chase. Jonathan Wyrick (fourth, 10:38.60) earned a MAC qualifying time and finished just ahead of teammate Ray Truex (fifth, 10:53.80).
 
In the 100 Meter Dash, Zach French had the fourth fastest time in prelims, crossing the line in 11.69. He did not run in the finals. Joshua Horst crossed the line in a time of 12.07.
 
Four Falcons earned top-ten finishes in the 800 Meter Run. Leading the way was John Condon with a MAC qualifying time of 2:01.22 to earn second. Nathan Kopp (fifth, 2:06.44), Jack Daudt (seventh, 2:10.15), and Aidan Pryor (10th, 2:12.80) all found themselves in the top-ten as well
 
Derek Heisey (eighth, 53.68) and Connor Daudt (10th, 54.02) added a pair of top-ten finishes in the 400 Meter.
 
A trio of Falcons found themselves in the top-ten of the 1500 Meter. Josiah Moyer earned second place overall but was the top collegiate finisher. He crossed the line in a time of 4:12.77, meeting the MAC standard. Zeke Colyer (third, 4:15.06) and Nathaniel Coggins (ninth, 4:24.68) also finished in the top ten. Aidan Pryor (4:34.33), Derek Guissanie (4:53.24), and Nathan Kopp (5:06.27) also raced for Messiah.
 
In the Field
Matthew Puleo added a fourth place finish in the High Jump, clearing a height of 1.70 meters. 
 
In addition to Puleo's first-place finish in the Javelin, Ryan O'Donnell earned a 10th-place finish with a mark of 29.92 meters.
 
Hoyt Lechthaler earned a pair of fifth-place finishes in the throws. In the Hammer, he threw a new Personal Record with a throw of 37.13 meters to earn a spot at MACs. In the Discus, his final mark of 34.93 meters was just short of MAC qualifying.
 
In the Triple Jump, John Steele earned a second-place finish with a MAC qualifying jump of 12.33 meters.
 
Liam McGovern earned an eighth-place finish in the Long Jump with a mark of 5.26 meters.
