Men’s Soccer Earns Dominate Win Over York

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Saturday afternoon, the Messiah University men's soccer team put together a dominate effort in a 4-0 win over the Spartans of York College. The Falcons started their offensive onslaught in the 18th minute with a goal from Patrick Lee by Kyle Spodnik. In the 21st minute, Davis Pagett scored off a short cross from Dylan Englehart to push the Falcons lead to 2-0. The Falcons offense was not done yet. Sam Phillips added the third goal of the first half on a header off a cross from Isaac Schmitke. Davis Pagett scored the final tally in the 57th minute, to give the Falcons a 4-0 win.
 
Up next, the Falcons travel to Reading, Pa. to take on the Golden Wolves of Alvernia University on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7:00 p.m.
 
 First Half
After some back-and-forth play to begin the game, the Falcons looked to get on the board in the 18th minute. After some great passes, Kyle Spodnik got the ball on the right side of the box. Spodnik dribbled the ball down to the end line and sent a pass right in front of the goal. After a small tip from the Spartans goalkeeper, Patrick Lee tapped the ball into the back of the net to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Falcons looked to extend the lead in the 21st minute. This time the Falcons worked the far side of the box and Dylan Englehart dribbled the ball towards the end line. Englehart popped the ball up in front of the goal and Davis Pagett headed the ball into the goal to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead. The Falcons offense continued to roll in the 35th minute. Ekow Yancah received a pass on the right side of the box and passed it quickly to Isaac Schmitke. Schmitke then sent a cross to the far post and Sam Phillips stepped in front of a York defender and headed the ball into the bottom-left corner of the goal to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead headed into the break.
 
Second Half
Even with the three-goal lead the Falcons offense continued to look to add to their lead in 57th minute. After a couple of shots from Davis Pagett were saved by the York goalkeeper, Pagett looked to make the third shot count. Pagett got the ball outside the right side of the box and dribbled past two York defenders and ripped a shot into the bottom-left corner to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead. The Falcons added two more shots on goal and the Spartans totaled three shots on in goal in the final 33 minutes, but no more goals were added and the Falcons cruised to a 4-0 win. 
 
Stats
Davis Pagett led the Falcons with two goals. Sam Phillips and Patrick Lee each added a goal. Dylan Englehart, Isaac Schmitke, and Kyle Spodnik each tallied an assist. The Falcons totaled 19 shots with 13 shots on goal. The Spartans totaled eight shots with four shots on goal. Adam Carter earned the win in goal for the Falcons and made one save. Kessler Forrest also earned time in goal and made two saves.
