WILLIAMSPORT, PA. – On Wednesday evening, the Messiah University men's soccer team drew with Lycoming College, 2-2. The Falcons got the offense going early with a
Dylan Englehart goal from
Kyle Spodnik to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Warriors responded with a penalty kick goal in the 33rd minute to tie the headed into the half. The Falcons retook the lead on a
Patrick Lee goal from
Matt Griffin in the 58th minute. In the 80th minute though, Lycoming scored the tying goal and both defenses held their ground to keep the game tied at the final whistle.
Up next, the Falcons return to Shoemaker Field for the MAC Commonwealth opener and homecoming weekend against the Eagles of Eastern University on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 3:00 p.m.
First Half
After an early Lycoming shot went wide, the Falcons offense looked to get on the board early. In the sixth minute,
Kyle Spodnik found an open
Dylan Englehart, who sent a shot into the back of the goal to give the Falcons an early 1-0 lead. The Warriors totaled the rest of the shots in the first half, with
Adam Carter making one save in the 26th minute. The Warriors consistent pressure was rewarded after a Messiah foul in the box led to a penalty kick goal in the 33rd minute to tie the game at one headed into the half.
Second Half
The second half started strong for the Warriors offense with a shot on goal in the first five minutes, but
Adam Carter made another save to keep the game tied. Just six minutes later, in the 57th minute, the Falcons looked to take the lead back.
Matt Griffin sent a pass that found
Patrick Lee and Lee sent a shot into the back of the goal to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead. The Warriors though would not go away without a fight. The Warriors drew the game even on a goal in the 80th minute. Both defenses then held the back line well for the final 10 minutes to keep the final score at 2-2.
