CHESTER, Pa. – On Saturday afternoon, the Messiah University swimming team earned a sweep at the Widener University triple-dual meet. The Falcons defeated Widener University, 161.50-98.50, King's College, 216-13, and Hood College, 213-38. The Falcons finished with 23 top three finishes in the individual races, with 10 gold medals on the afternoon. The Falcons added a gold medal in the 200 medley relay and a silver and bronze in the 200 free relay.
Up next, the Falcons return to Fredricksen Natatorium to take on the Knights of Arcadia University on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1:00 p.m.
How It Happened
The Falcons opened the meet strong with a first-place finish in the 200 medley. The team of Maddy Price, Lauren Cotton, Erin Goudie, and Kylie Wilkinson touched the first with a time of 1:56.22.
The Falcons opened the individual events with a second and third-place finish in the 1000 free. Keelie Conaway finished with the silver with a time of 11:34.35 and Kari Mindrebo finished in third with a time of 11:58.16. Conaway added another silver in the in the 500 free with a time of 5:39.69. Mindrebo also finished third in the 100 free with a time of 58.85.
In the next event, Kyle Wilkinson touched the wall first in the 200 free with a time of 2:02.63.
The Falcons then earned the gold and silver in the 100 back. Grace Schad finished first with a time of 1:00.51 and Maddy Price finished second with a time of 1:04.86. Price also added a gold medal in the 200 back with a time of 2:21.24.
In the 100 breast, the Falcons earned the sweep. Lauren Cotton touched the wall first with a time of 1:10.97, Madelyn Frey finished second with a time of 1:11.74, and Lexi Lovern earned the bronze with a time of 1:12.62. Cotton also earned the gold in the 200 breast with a time of 2:35.66 and the silver in the 200 IM with a time of 2:21.55. Lovern earned a silver in the 200 breast with a time of 2:35.97. Frey touched the wall first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:20.75 and also added a third-place finish in the 200 breast with a time of 2:38.98.
In the 200 fly, the Falcons earned both the gold and the bronze. Erin Goudie touched the wall first with a time of 2:19.77 and Makayla Yellets earned the bronze with a time of 2:30.14. Goudie also added a 100 fly with the time of 1:02.80.
The Falcons added a gold in the 500 free from Samantha Pennell with a time of 5:38.70. Pennell also added a third-place finish with a time of 1:07.49.
Lauren Mock also added a gold in the 100 free with a time of 56.90.
The Falcons also earned a silver in the 50 free. Kendal Wilson touched the wall second with a time of 26.56.
The Falcons finished the meet with a second and third-place finish in the 200 free relay. The team of Kari Mindrebo, Kendal Wilson, Kylie Wilkinson, and Erin Goudie finished in second with a time of 1:45.94. The team of Madelyn Frey, Hailey Fegan, Makayla Yellets, and Lauren Mock earned the bronze with a time of 1:48.06.
